    Yeah 2nd gen is definitely available in 4 and 6; but only the 3rd gen 4R swaps over to our 1st Gen Tacoma.

    It's just that Tacoma's are available in 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder both in 4x4.

    I've only seen the 3rd Gen 4R available as a 4x4 in a 6 cylinder variant. All 4 cylinders I've seen are 4x2.

    @High Noon @Kwikvette

    My first toyota 4x4 was a 1998 2.7L 5 speed 4runner with ADD and j-shift transfer case. I had no idea the spline counts were different... I must've had a unicorn?

    Because I pulled the motor rebuilt it and dropped it into my 4 banger 98 tacoma and everything went together okay

    EDIT

    Didn't read the earlier posts well enough, the spline difference is motor differences that's why that bolted together okay

    In the 98-00 models (the only tacomas I've worked on or know) ABS and CC are on the same side. CC more to the middle of the wheel well and ABS behind it if you have both

    The only reason I bought that 4R was because it was a 4cyl 4x4 lol and the guy was a drug addict that needed it out of his driveway.. fastest I've ever spent $200

    it was ungodly slug like and only had the 7.5 inch rear axle but alot of 4R parts and pieces are in my tacoma

    I snapped a photo of the vin before I scrapped it... but cant read the picture :rofl:

    If you can decipher it .. then check toyota VIN, it should verify that it was genuine20190324_130243.jpg

    Get a better potato to take your pics with.

    If you wanted, you can grab the vin off previous insurance cards. It's how I verified the RX7 I owned years back was the one my co worker found on CL

    No

    You can just type in your insurance company's name in the search bar of your email, and just open the email with the PDF of your card from the time when you owned said car or truck.

    Takes all of 10 seconds; boomer :luvya:

    Bunch of t-cases on car-part.com. But they are not in Montana., Colorado and Idaho. Prices are low enough it may be cost effective to ship it.
