This is bugging the piss outta me!

Happens when I get to about 75mph, some times lower speed, some times faster speed, depending on how hard the wind is blowing at the moment, that's about the most data I've noticed thus far. I get this terrible sound coming from the front drivers side fender/tire/mud flap area, best I can determine. It's definitely right next to the driver door and down.
I would relate the sound to when you put a blade of grass between your thumbs and blow, like a buzzing whistle kinda sound. Sucks!

I've checked my tire, it's fine. I've checked the door seal, perfect. Mud flap, looks fine as well. Fender and body trim is all good too. Nothing is hung up under that area of the truck either. It's not anything rattling, not that kind of sound.

I've done nothing that all of a sudden started this either, happened to notice it within a week of owning. I unfortunately didn't get the truck above 70mph on the test drive back in June either, or else I may have not bought it at all.

I may try and remove the flaps for a couple days and see if it changes anything.
    Any input helps I reckon.

Also, it isn't a constant sound. It's sporadic. I'm kinda leaning toward mud flap removal and it being related to wind.

I was also about to say windshield, too. My passenger side does that at high speeds, especially if there is a crosswind. I don't have mudflaps so I know it's not that. Same sound based on your description though. My antenna will make a vibrating noise at high speeds, but I have the older metal antenna on the passenger fender, not the shark fin.

I'll check to see if there are any defects in the windshield seal too.

I swear it comes from the direction of the wheel well though

You likely won't see a defect. Mine looks perfect.

Take your mudflaps off first, and give it a test drive under the same conditions and see if it goes away. Start there and work up from that.

Calling the dealer in just a moment. Gonna have a lil chit chat about what other bulletins I should be aware of.
I'm not surprised it wasn't already taken care of honestly, it only had 25k miles on it in June this year. Not bad for an almost 3yr old vehicle.

Been searching a lot on this. Here, other forums. Didn't realize it's such an issue!
Apparently, it's directly related to the seals on the door, window, and cab. Possibly windshield as well, that's mostly older year model trucks, though.

Thank goodness I'm still under warranty and I know a couple techs at my local Toyota dealer!

Oh, I can duplicate the sound! Gonna duplicate the hell outta it right now. Heading home from work.

I'm gonna push on the door/window/windshield and see what that does. Let ya know

Trying the simplest fix first was the route I chose and worked for me. Messing with the door seals and things like that are far less intrusive than replacing or resealing the windshield. Good luck!

Got an appointment with the dealer next friday.
Talked to my cousin's in-law, my neighbor, and he works for a Ford dealer. Says the same thing plagues the new aluminum F-series and some older 4 door and ext cab trucks. I'm going to talk to my friend that works at the Toyota dealer and see what he knows about this before I take the truck in.

I missed my appointment at the dealer, my fault.
Going in on the 14th now.

Talked to one of our super genius engineers at work. He's saying he had a 90-something model Tacoma and it whistled around the mirrors. He told me try adding some foam in between the fender and leading edge of the door, just enough to act a buffer, not fill up the cavity(couldn't open the door). May try it if dealer can't fix it.

its the door weather strip...its nothing else. cut a piece of small diameter washer hose about 12" in length and stick it behind the weather strip along the piller....it will take care of it.

That's about the location of where the sound is. Roughly near the mirror, maybe lower.
I've got a good friend who was a tech and is now a service manager at my dealer, he's gonna set me up right, or at least tell me how to fix it. It's still under warranty too.

Just left the dealer and back home. Nothing was done except wasted fuel. I had multiple videos of it too.
They wouldn't order a new door seal for fear of it "coming back"...ghey! Called it "normal" and claim it happens on a lot of vehicles, not just Tacoma's. Even tried blaming my vent shades, but it happened before that.
Said they need more complaints to even consider a TSB. So, get your asses off here and to the dealer so it can be documented and something can be done about it. They only have a TSB for 05-07 and 09-12, I believe.
