Recently traded my 2021 SR 4 cylinder Tacoma for a 2020 V6 SR5 and I noticed a discrepancy between the odometers. From my driveway to my parking spot, the trip odometer on my V6 says it's 29.1 miles. When I had my 4 cylinder the trip meter said it was 28.8 miles. Both trucks have factory tire size. No lift kit or anything. 0.3 miles difference in distance multiplied by 5 days is 1.5 miles a week, 6 miles a month or 72 miles year. So my V6 is accumulating more mileage from driving back and fourth to work for what reason exactly? I literally park in the exact same spot everyday. Maybe the Russians are hacking into the computer systems in vehicles' to gradually increase the mileage so we all trade in for the new 4th gen Tacoma.

Take curves tighter and mileage will also be less

A few additions to make me feel cool.
You could use a GPS or your phone to verify the discrepancy. If you find that the new truck is wrong, take it back to the dealer and ask that the odometer be calibrated. I am not sure they are calibrated to the tire size of whatever package the truck rolls out the door with. I am sure some margin of error is acceptable in the industry. Guess I have never thought of it.

It's not a perfect world. There is an "acceptable range of accuracy " for these things. Buy a GPS and see what that says, maybe you're old truck was lying to you making you feel better for driving 72 miles less a year

she was a little on the slow side being a 4 banger so maybe the daily commute didn't process correctly in the computer.

I would send Toyota a bill at the end of each year for the mileage difference at .625/mile. Then post how they respond

Check out Post 350 on this link if you want to see the TSB that replaced my Combo meter because of the Trip Meter resetting. Who knows what else weird can be going on in the Toyota Combo Meter cluster.
