Never would’ve thought different dealers parts websites would have different parts pricing with free pick up

To people who need front lower balljoints, see if you can order part number 04005-03235, it is a set of RH and LH for 1995-2004 Tacoma that was used in a recall. It works out to less than $100 per ball joint from some online dealers.

I’m also replacing my rack and pinion and balancing all my tires. So the alignment will be needed plus I’ve got a big trip ahead of me

Also, anyone know the P/N for the four bolts that hold the LBJ on? I can't seem to find them in any of the diagrams online.

I would use 90119-10933 for the bolts, sold individually.

They don't come with the kit.

When I looked up the part numbers for my 04, the ball joints that were said to fit my truck were the ones that do not come with bolts. I had to order bolts separately.

I may be wrong but I think the ones that come with bolts are for the earlier model 1st gens that don't have the rubber boot around the ball joint, and their bolts are different sizes. 2 longer and 2 shorter for each side. The bolts you order separately for the 01 - 04s are all the same size and hold the rubber dust boot in place, the rubber dust boot has 2 mounting points that effectively shorten 2 of the bolts a little bit.

Which is why, when I tried bolting in my LBJ without a dust boot because it broke, I ended up snapping one of the bolts trying to torque it down to 59 ft/lbs. It was too long of a bolt without the rubber dust boot mount to shorten it.

Anyway I highly suggest before ordering LBJs that you run your VIN through a site like www.partsouq.com and have them verify the exact part number your truck requires. There are different part number LBJs for 6 lug 1st gens and my theory above is why I think that is.

    Thanks,
Thats the same P/N they gave me when I called in. For less then $12 for eight it makes sense to just replace them.

    90119-10933 Bolt W Washer $1.40 8 $11.20

May 2001-2004: All 4 bolts are the same (90119-10933, with washers)

The latest bolts (90119-10933) will work on all trucks 1995-2004.

1995-2000: Latest ball joint part numbers are 43330-39815 (RH) and 43340-39585 (LH)
2001-2004: Latest ball joint part numbers are 43330-39556 (RH) and 43340-39436 (LH)

The latest ball joints (43330-39556 and 43340-39436, both inluded in 04005-03235) will work on all trucks 1995-2004.

If you would like to also use the boots with the new ball joints or want to replace them if you own a newer truck, the part numbers are 43346-60011 (Qty: 2)

    For 2WD (excluding Pre-Runner):

1995-2004: Latest ball joint part numbers are 43330-39565 (RH) and 43340-39445 (LH), bolts are part number 90080-10123 (same for all years)

That's crazy, why so many bolt variations based on dates like that? I guess it's good to know that there is a universal fitting bolt that works across all years though. I wasn't sure if the one I snapped was because it was just a bad bolt or maybe because I tried torquing it down without the washer on the dust boot to shorten it. Either way I keep the dust boot washer on it now and haven't had any problems.

As far as I can tell, they used the same 4 bolts until they updated it to have the boot, at which point they swapped out the two bolts that were on the boot for ones with washers, then a few months later realized they could just use the ones with washers for all of them and not need to use two different types of bolt (faster and cheaper for production and less change of mistakes).
