Nice write up man! So I’m assuming #85 on the relay goes directly to #4 on the switch? No tapping/quick connecting into anything right?

Not on that end but the side that feeds pin #86 is where you need to tap power. If you have remote start you might want to tap an always hot source and cross connect to the remote start with diodes so your mirrors are clear when you get in. Can do other cross connections like heated seats similarly.

Agreed. I knew what I was getting when I bought my (10 year old at purchase) Tacoma, but I would have done terrible things to have gotten a winter package with wiper defrost, heated mirrors, and heated seats like my '06 Outback had. Are those necessities? No. Are they nice accessories that Toyota already had the parts for in other vehicles? Yes.

So then Pin 85 isn’t used at all?? I’m just confused because I followed the instructions step by step (aside from plug #4 on the switch because it wasn’t mentioned) and I’m not getting power to the mirrors.

If you're using the Highlander-type switch mentioned in the original post, Pin 85 should go to pin #4 on the switch, Pin 30 and Pin 86 should both be fed from your power source, and Pin 87 should provide power to your mirrors (see the diagram at Step 4 in the first post). If you are using a different kind of switch, it'll take more digging to find your alternatives.

A relay is 2 circuits and both need power and ground. 86 connects to power, 85 connects to switch pin 4, close the switch to connect to ground and complete that circuit. 30 connects to power, 87 connects to mirrors, mirrors connect to ground. That’s the other circuit. When the switch side closes it causes the relay to close and energize the mirrors.

Thank y’all so much. I used a premade wire harness that was for a light bar, so I’m thinking that’s where I messed up. I’m gonna go back and redo the wiring myself, and I’ll let y’all know how it turns out.

    Good luck
It helps immensely to fully comprehend how it works over simply plugging it in and crossing fingers. With any mod I’ve learned to do the homework first before buying anything let alone picking up the tools. Learning how to learn is why we go to school.

Ok, so it’s actually the Highlander switch I have that’s a dud. I switched the Heated Mirror switch with the Traction Control switch, and I have power going to the mirrors now. To confirm it was the Heated Mirrors Switch, I installed into the Traction Control connector to see if the TRAC lights would come on the dash to no avail. I already have a replacement Highlander Switch on the way, so once it gets here I’ll plug it in. I’ll keep y’all updated. Thanks for the help

Thanks I mistyped I meant the timer not relay. The wolf one looks to be out of business. I saw the 10 amp one mentioned but they won’t ship to me.

I'm doing the same thing, but I don't know enough to route into the fuse box. Tested it going into the cigarette lighter, mirror heats up slightly so I'm gonna clean up the wiring with a switch and inline fuse.

If that's not enough power to melt ice I'll probably try this post out.

@OP @Benson X - is it just me or is a lot of text in the original post put in WHITE PRINT. (WHITE PRINT.)

It's impossible to read without doing some weird highlight trickery. Can you change the WHITE PRINT to some other darker color?

Or maybe it's just my browser and no others?

It's not just you, depends on what color theme you have selected for the forum.

The font colors in the OP need to be updated to 'default' - I'll get that changed tomorrow when I'm on an actual computer.

In the meantime, a quick fix is to update your forum theme to 'Dark' (bottom left corner on the blue banner)

    This should be fixed.

I had to update the OP using the BB Code Editor to (manually) delete all the #ffffff color selections. It looks good on my end in both the 'Default' (white) and 'Dark' (black) forum colors schemes, but please check on your end to see if it looks good on your side, too.
