At first it would just switch off on it's own and I wasn't sure if it had something to do with the way I was using the aux input for my Ipod. Then I realized it was the radio, switching itself off and also on, or conversely, not being able to switch it off, control the volume or switch between FM and Ipod inputs. Not as loud as I think it should be, the fader and balance controls also reset themselves.

Dealer told me 3-4 weeks, which is now going on 6-8 weeks. I always intended to install a an aftermarket radio, but would like to be sure that the problem is only with the radio and not something that includes the rest of the electrical system. To upgrade before I know for sure would give the Dealer and excuse to void the warrantee. so I am waiting to be sure that everything is sound before I upgrade.

I may try to convince the dealer that the radio comes on automatically that startles me, and causing an unsafe driving experience. That might get their attention and motivate them to replace the radio a little faster. Just a thought anyway.

Mine started screwing up on the 2nd day I had it. It does all the abnormal stuff. It's been about 2 months since I went to the Dealer and complained about it. It's still on backorder, should be here soon.....

It's just the crappy OEM radio... your electrical system is fine. Feel free to replace it with an aftermarket unit whenever you're ready.

Good luck with that. The problem is they can't get the replacement units (because SO many people all over the country need them). There's nothing you can do to make them get your replacement any sooner. They get it when they get it. The question is... do you really want it? I'm on my second unit now - and it's actually worse than the original. Toyota screwed us on this one.

OK. I started this poll because I'm getting a 2010 dc or, and I wanted to know if I was going to have trouble with the unit before I switched to aftermarket. If/when I sell the car, I would want to put back the original and take out my stuff, especially the speakers.

Has anyone heard of any trouble with the 2010 radios? My Taco should have arrived on 9/26, but I haven't heard from the salesman. It's going to have the DZ option (6-disc CD changer/satellite radio prewire) which I didn't want, but the salesman said declining it would mean putting in for a full custom factory order--which I wasn't willing to do.

I never had any problems with my stock radio in my 2009 base model, but I replaced it with a JVC KW-XG700 that sounds MUCH better!

My factory sub behind the rear seat sounds like it is shorting out? The truck only has 800 miles on it. I gotta drag it back to the dealer :(

'09 with "base" radio - yep its as flakey as filo dough in cheese spinach pie. :) Mine didn't even last long enough to complete the drive out the dealership parking lot. A friend thought I was kidding about the radio - until he took a ride in my truck and witnessed it for himself.

Five of "... six to seven..." week ETA for the warranty replacement as of today, but I have my doubts as to whether or not they'll actually keep to the timetable.

If I had to punt the factory unit, I think I'd go for the Kenwood GPS/DVD setups (non-motorized screen, for longevity). Scosche makes both dash kits and factory harness adapters...

I have a 2009 4x4 BASE model with a stock radio/CD unit... It refuses to read CD's and the volume control is inoperative ever now and then. Out of frustration, I hit the top of the unit hard and it worked. I am planning on taking it in soon for a replacement.
I also have a hessitant start when turning the ignition. My '87 4Runner started quicker than my 09!

MY '09 Access cab radio just started turning itself off. About 12,000 miles on it.

09 4500 miles, dealer says at lesat 6-8wks for fix, he actually suggested I just buy a aftermarket radio myself. I had to laugh brand new $30k with a POS radio that doesnt work & he tells me the wait is so long I should pay for and install an aftermarket myself. Terrible!!!!!

Tegdog......maybe you should call the "Toyota Experience Center" 800 number like we did. We were kind of brushed off several weeks ago when we called about the status of the radio order. That's when we called the 800 number and got a call the next day from the service manager and then the subsequent call from Toyota directly. They should know what the dealer told you............b-a-a-d!!!!

    I agree! Good advice.

I can understand the initial radio trouble (don't like it) but it is nonsense for replacement radios to have the same issue. Just a complete lack of quality control. We will see if TMC buys anymore of these junk AC-Delco radios in the future.
