I got mine on as well. Just put silicone calk around the screw holes, and no leakage.

Nice! I used silicone as well, but the sealant kind. IMO the racks really set the double cabs apart from the single and AC's and seem to make it look even more burly and capable. Well done, Toyota :hattip:

I know this is slightly old.. but other than weight capacity is there a fit difference between a second gen and third gen? I'm thinking not..

Just keep throwin' money at it.
If anyone who has done this has their spare passenger side weather stripping laying around I could use it.

Does the back rail sit far enough back to allow something to rest on it while touching the bed door and give clearance to the roof line?

It'll take an hour they said.... The right hand rail went on in 15 minutes and I was secretly high-fiving myself in my head. Then the left rail changed my mood entirely. After three hours of struggling and one stripped bolt, I wanted to crawl in the corner and start sucking my thumb and asking for mama. The culprit was the steel mounting bracket was mildly twisted.

Definitely want to do this mod. What is TWpartz? Is that an OEM part? Anyone consider using teflon tape to avoid leaks?

Is their any particular reason for putting the OEM rack on instead of simply putting a thule/Yakima etc rack on?

OEM rack has mounting points under the black stripes on the roof. I don't know if Thule/Yakima make anything for the Tacoma that will mount into those. Outside of that, probably just personal preference on one over another.

^this. I figure I can't go wrong sticking with the Toyota rack made for my truck.

I've been playing with an idea lately but haven't taken my OEM roof rack off to see if it would work. For those who have done the install themselves, how much room would you say is under the front plastic portion that covers the metal bracket?

I think retrofitting some recessed LED pods up there would be cool.

Probably enough if you get creative. But it’s cheap plastic and will be difficult and probably more work than it’s worth. Although a cool idea.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be a winter project. Something to keep me busy. I really like the Prinsu racks, but since my OEM was installed at the factory, i dont think I want to mess with new stripping. Figured I could find a creative way to get some lighting up there without an LED bar which is not my style.

If you remove the rack the stripping is just two pieces of rubber that snap in. There’s not much to it.
