I am thinking about purchasing the Toyota OEM boards (black) ... like the idea of having protection against rock chips, and the idea that they protrude enough to prevent door dings from small cars ... but I am not sure how they will work in the winter. Will they just be a snow/ice trap and promote corrosion?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I guess that nobody has the OEM running boards ... so there is my answer.

So, which brand of nerf bar has three supports on each side?

I've ordered the running boards for my truck, my friend has them on his and he has no problem with them in the winter. He had them put on, then the underbody sprayed so that the mounting points would be protected.

Just me, but I don't like the looks of the oem boards at all.

A lot of people have them.... do a search. If you look in the blue bar towards the right - you'll see SEARCH. Type in "OEM Running boards" and you'll get lots of threads.

I just installed a set of Double cab running boards on my access cab.

I'm gonna guess and say that these running boards will protect your rocker panels from road debris, cinders, rocks, salt, etc. The only additional corrosion (I'm guessing) will be to the running boards themselves....

i have oem Westin running boards. they protrude out enough to stop a door ding if the door is low enough. but most arent. i have heard them stop rocks and road debris before.

mine are chrome, which i hate. im thinkin about either removing them or getting black ones
