yes. they looked to fit like they were for another vehicle. At one point in time and space I think I saw a reservoir/gutter system which has a tube that drained under bed.

But yes, there arw several bone head things on these trucks. Bed and tailgate air gaps. Maybe engineered for mpg? Not sure. The bed storage cargo areas are open to the wheel well. This astonished me. Its truly a lazy problem. I assumed they were sealed from the wheel well/underbody. Had a can of fix a flat in one over the winter. Noticed a trail of white dried road salt/h20 coming outta one. Opened it and the fix a flat can was a rusty mess. Im sure I could find a way to seal off the tab holes, but why the hell should I have to on a $36k truck.
Dont get me wrong, love the truck. But a few details and it could be spectacular. We all know what the most wanted taco improvements are, but they don't arrive.
If they could make a crew cab taco (bit more leg room than a dbl cab, will def sell to suburbanites and others). Frame mounted slider option on the off road to compete with the zr2 eh? Instead of several running board options...
Bed and tailgate (tailgate that inspires confidence beyond its popcan appearance) that is more truck capable.
Seat position (no up down yatatatata), chrome trim and bezels trying to give me a strobe seizure every sunny day, more customization and control over the myriad of nanny beeps (door ajar, walk away from running truck beep, cannot lock truck while it runs w/o doing window roll trick) etc.

    ok rant over

Nanny beeps. Lol. Can’t stand the door ajar beep. I thought I read a hack for that one somewhere.

I thought I read somewhere on here that someone makes an insert you can put in those bed cubbies to make them sealed and watertight. I can't find it anymore though! If anyone knows and has a link, I'd like to get them as well...

I saw a diy fix with silicone and tape but I can’t find it now. Interested to read it if you find the insert fix

Yea. I am in the same place with my OEM. Leaks like nuts. I thought it was the spaces along the corner of the cab. WRONG! Then I figured it was the spaces along the corner of the tailgate. NOPE. Very frustrating. I stopped by the dealer and they said it could be “adjusted “. Who knows

Did anything you tried have any effect at all? Keep us posted if your dealer makes any headway. Mine said nothing could done and made a point to explain that the manual even says it’s not designed to be water proof.

Frank. Nothing I’ve done has made much difference. I’ll keep you posted on the dealer. Not too hopeful.

Can't find inserts (swear I saw something, but maybe I'm remembering wrong), but found this thread from a TW user who creates a kit to seal them up.

Let us know how it goes! I might try and order the kit as well eventually, so I'll be interested to see how it works out for you.

So. Yesterday it was really raining. I went out and opened my gate. Looks like the water is coming down the sides of the bed almost from the rails. I did notice that my latches on the section that rests on the gate are really slack even after the 2 click closure. Also, wonder if the water could be getting into the panels themselves where they fold?????

i found the water to be coming in only where two panels meet, right where the seal meets the rail. the water was then dripping down on the tie down rail, and from there, it would track that rail the whole length of the bed and drip down the side at various points along the tie down rail. at first glance it looked like it was coming in everywhere along the sides under the seal, but it wasnt on mine. only where two panels met, then spread out from there.

We have a soaking rain tonight. I took a light and dropped the gate. Water is literally running down both sides of the bed. Looks to be coming from the rails. Totally useless!!!!

Here are a couple pictures of the weather stripping i used. the cover mostly stays closed obviously, and the times it is open and i am hauling stuff, the strip does not stand out too much in my opinion. in the close up picture you can see where water was pooling in the texture of the bed rail cover. those tracks in the bed rail cover allow the water to run and drip down where ever it wants to. so i was initially fooled into thinking that water was coming in everywhere along the length of the bed, but upon closer inspection, it only penetrates at the very spots where two panels of the cover meet. Perhaps water was getting in under the seal along the whole length of the bed prior to me putting the weather stripping on. but now, just where the two panels meet and then spreads out. Thanks Frank. SO. I just got back from my dealer. They were able to “adjust”. My last panel to where now I have to push pretty good to get that second click. Before I could life the top up at least a quarter inch AFTER it was clicked closed. Hope this will help some. I’ll keep posted
