Hey all, couldn't find this in another thread I'm sure it's there but I figured it'd be faster this way. I just bought a 2011 Tacoma and was looking to get into real off-roading and cannot for the life of me figure out how big a lift to put on and what size/kind of tires is best with keeping road driving fairly close to stock. I'm only an hour and a half away from Rausch Creek in Tremont, PA so I'll have plenty of opportunities to do some good crawlin. Any recommended gear?

    2" Lift, 265/75/16 tires, all-terrains if you're wanting to maintain a factory/quiet ride.

This lift is highly recommended by members here. You'd want 884x coils for 2" lift:

    Tires:
Duratrac, Dynapro ATm, KO2's, AT3's, etc. etc. Your pick based upon your budget.

A 2 inch lift would be enough to clear any rock terrains?

"Any rock terrain"? That's kind of a tall order....

2" to 2-1/2" lifts are relatively inexpensive (unless you go nuts), will clear decent sized tires (265/75/r16 or 17) and provide adequate clearance for normal off roading. With a little trimming, you can clear 285's with a 2" or 2-1/2" lift. Beyond that, it's more about chassis armor to protect what doesn't clear....

2-1/2" seems to be the dividing line between needing and not needing new upper control arms to get alignment in spec after a lift. I ended up with 2-7/8" lift and managed to squeeze by with alignment that is very good, but may be the exception rather than the rule. Go to 3" and above, and get ready to take a sawzall to your wallet. Lifting past 3" can get costly to get it right. (Expensive being a relative term....To me, spending north of a grand is expensive. Some would say that's chicken feed)

I like the above mentioned kit from Headstrong, but personally favor the 885X' coils and the 2-1/2" + lift it provides.

Toytec coilovers in the front set to 2 inches of lift, Light racing upper control arms. for the rear its got the Dakar leaf packs, Ubolt flip, icon 2.5's w/resis, also have a 1 inch block under the leaf because of extra weight. for tires i have 35 inch BFG A/T KO2's. truck rides great, flexes nicely, its done most of what I've asked it to do.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
How'd you fit 35's on 2" of lift when my 33's rub at 3". And I've cut up the fender flares pretty good... Narrow 35's?

I have Icon extended travel coilovers in the front on my truck, set to a little over 2.5" of lift. Rear is an Icon AAL pack with Icon non-res shocks. Tires are 265/70/17 Hankook Dynapro ATM. I can keep up with my friends on 40" tires on their dedicated trail rigs (though I often have to go a little slower).
