Yes, but FSU took an L by opting out. Next year will be better but this year’s group doesn’t feel any better about that.

I’m in the camp that FSU should have gone even if Alabama and Texas may have been better at the end of the season. That said, when you have a chance to go undefeated and you sit (draft, portal, sour grapes … pick your reason) it’s a sad look. Where is school pride? I know I’m a boomer, but back in the days there was no playoff (National Champion was a popularity vote by the writers and coaches) someone sitting was almost unheard of, even for the reason to prevent injury before the draft.

No pride in chancing injury for transfer or the big league $$$. I get what you're saying, but school pride has been gone for a while now.

 

Bowls lost their meaning when they started adding a million of them for ad revenue and sponsorships, and then a tiny playoff.

NCAA sports is not and was never about the kids. Money talks and bullshit walks.

I’m of the opinion that Division 1 college football needs to be split, at least in half.

the likes of teams like Temple, and SMU, and Eastern Michigan, etc will never see a national championship. Not the way college football is now. So why are they even in the division?

if division 1 was reduced to say 64 teams, double the nfl, it would be so much easier to setup a proper schedule and playoff system. Then do some wacky shit like bottom 10 move down to the other division and the top 10 from that one move on up.

but it’s all about money. Until we all quit watching and supporting the shit show that is, they won’t change much.

I guess i'm biased but I feel like if Bama is good enough to beat the #1 team and it propels them into the top 4. Should Georgia have fallen out of the top 4 ? Their only loss was to a top team { Bama } and only by 3 points . I honestly feel if the tables were turned, bama wouldn't have fallen out of the top 4. As far as FSU, they were screwed in the worst way. Its hard to go undefeated , then get disrespected in that way.

 

What about Ohio State? Their only loss was to the now #1 team.

 

That game took 2 years off my life, every dumb luck and dumb shit thing our team could do to give Texas hope until literally the last play in the last second, Christ almighty. When Dylan Johnson went down and the clock stopped we were screaming, “Crawl your ass off, drag his ass off, what the hell are you doing?” That left an extra 30 seconds on the clock then our punt coverage pulls an act of sheer stupidity that spot them an extra yards, unbelievable.

When I’m king … Division 1A: Top 64-80 teams organized in 8 conferences of 8-10 teams … GROUPED GEOGRAPHICALLY like the old days, not the new madness. Yes, Norte Dame, you have to pick a conference. Conference winners are determined by playing every team once, best record wins. Non-conference play doesn’t matter, which encourages great teams to schedule other great teams from other conferences. The 8 conference winners play a single elimination tournament for the national title. Bowl games for non-conference winners exist (or not) based on the market for them. I don’t care how many as they don’t matter. The rest of the teams are in Division 1B and 1C with similar structure. If you want to add a system to periodically exchange bottom ‘A’ teams for top ‘B’ teams (same for B and C) then submit a proposal and I’ll consider it.

I'm with Joel Klatt. No matter the format, the Rose Bowl should always be the national championship. Transfer Portal and signing periods should move to after the national championship.

Playoff expansion will help with opt outs, but not cure it entirely. Especially as NFL salaries are getting more and more ridiculous for top players.
