Actually think it’s going to be extremely anticlimactic. Especially if you believe the Vegas odds on the bama/SMU argument. The only question will be bar far Texas falls (6th, 7th at worst) and how far SMU falls (they’re still in, Bama is out.

 

If they leave SMU out for losing to the conference champion by 3, but put Bama in for getting ass blasted by unranked horrible Oklahoma…

we riot.

 

The seeding will be interesting. I’d prefer that after they seed 1-4 they be flexible with 5-8, and then 9-12 to avoid/delay rematches. Especially a Tex-GA 3rd game. I think that should only happen if it’s the championship game, but it could end up being 2nd round.

SMU vs Alabama for last berth will be interesting. Only Tide fans will cry if SMU gets in. The rest of the country is on the SMU side.

I kind of dont want "rematch of the SEC Championship game for the overall championship" to be on my bingo card, but I also dont want to see them play in an earlier round, either. Conflicting.

Yeah, the fact that theres debate about it makes me a bit nervous for SMU though.

 

SMU shouldn’t be punished for playing a conference championship when the other team did that.

 

Also Alabama was in 6-way tie at 5-3 for 4th on their conference. Even if we all agree Alabama might be better than SMU I pick SMU to go. If you are barely over .500 in your conference why should you play for a national title? Same argument in the NCAA basketball tournament. You could have a major conference team finish .500 in their conference and be ‘better’ than some minor conference team that just barely missed their automatic bid. But if you are average or barely above in your conference you didnt earn a chance to be champs.

 

The name for this new playoff should include the word "Conference" ... so that I can further express my opinion that Notre Dame has no place in this playoff, or any championship, until they join a conference.

 

I would also like to see a "SOL - strength of loss" in these discussions, more properly labeled "WOL - weakness of loss" or "WFL - weakness from loss".

 

Right they keep talking about Alabama beating Georgia, but there have been plenty of major upsets in history from weak teams. See App State for example, does that mean you get to go? No.

Get some punishment in there for losing to Vandy and OU! Any other team loses those 2 games and they are out of the top 25

 

I think Nick Saban said it best, college football could benefit from a ranking system like college basketball has where all these things are taken into consideration.

Question though, why tf did the rankings not change? Why did Clemson not move up? How is 2 loss conf champ Arizona state not ranked higher than Bama?

Yes, no doubt you have the best 4, and you also are giving all of the conference champions a chance. Which it’s impossible to say which conference is better than another just based on regular season, no matter what SEC fan girls say.

and this is why the expanded playoff is great.

 

but doesn't this conference champion guarantee end next year?
