Nah, I think Georgia has got this. I also expect Ohio State to win today even though I'd absolutely love to see Tennessee win. Penn State and Texas should both win today too.

If SMU gets blown out today after Indiana got blown out last night (it was 10 points in the end, but we all know that game wasn’t actually that close), does the committee actually take SOS into consideration next year? I think anyone with eyes could see the Indiana debacle coming. They played no one all year and looked like world beaters. The 2 decent teams they played, they looked completely inept.
This isn’t me lobbying for Alabama or ole Miss to have made the playoff. Fuck them. (Maybe South Carolina because they were one of the hotter teams in the country…but don’t lose 3 games and maybe you have a shot). But you have to look at the SOS and SOR at some point. They beat 3 teams with a .500 or better record. 2 of those were .500. The other was 7-5. Total W/L record of teams they beat was 51-81. I get why Greg Byrne keeps crying about how bama is gonna start scheduling D3 teams because it obviously doesn’t matter (but their losses came to conference opponents, so maybe shut up, Greg.)

I don’t know who I want to lose more between OSU/ut. Both fanbases are insufferable (I live up at the ga/tn line so I have to deal with a lot of Tennessee fans.)

I think they definitely did enough to deserve a chance. But anyone who thought that they were going to go far was either an Indiana fan or just lying to themselves.

For me, the only connection I have with Tennessee at all is that I liked Hendon Hooker and now he's the backup for the Lions. That and Joe Milton transferred there after he lost his starting spot at Michigan so I definitely can't speak to the toxicity of their fans. However, I rarely even find myself rooting for OSU against the big SEC teams and that's saying a lot.

Man, that SMU QB couldn’t have made 2 prettier passes to PSU if he had been trying to. Nice soft touch, easy to catch. Just beautiful

    This.

I don’t care what anyone says. They deserved it. Did they have a weak SoS? Sure. But SoS has a lot of bias to it, just like preseason rankings and all kinds of stuff. The expanded playoff allows teams that don’t get the typical favoritism to have an opportunity. Otherwise, why call them D1? Why say they’re in a “power” conference if winning all but 1 game doesn’t matter?

if you can’t even be top 3 in your conference (looking at you Alabama Ole Miss and South Carolina) then your ass doesn’t deserve it.

there is ABSOLUTELY NO way of knowing how strong one conference is compared to another unless they play more games. Putting more teams from the same conference into the playoff proves nothing.

hell I support Army deserving to be in this year!

either we give these teams opportunities (as we are now finally) or we need to split D1 up into multiple divisions and get down to 32 teams or something like the NFL does.

Don’t we all remember when LSU absolutely clobbered OU in 2019? Nobody said OU didn’t deserve to be in.

well maybe Georgia fans thought they didn’t but they just got molly whooped by LSU too so they didn’t really get an opinion

It shouldn’t. There have been blowouts in the first round of basically every playoff since it existed. Even with your precious little 4 teams.

Maybe there were teams obviously better than SMU and Indiana, but you can’t lose 3 conference games, be tied for 4th in your conference and play for a national title (Alabama, S.Carolina, Ole Miss, LSU, A&M). You have to just give these other teams a shot and live with some first round blowouts. Or … just have an 8 team playoff.

8 team playoff has the same issues, just like the 4 team did. At least at 12 we are all pretty damn confident the best teams are in there.

the solution is not a smaller or larger or playoff, it’s a smaller division. D1 is too big.

Agree. The FBS and FCS have about 120 teams each. Split them in 3 with about 80 each.

I really hate these 16-team conferences where you only play 1/2 the teams. I’d like to see Division-1 be 80 teams made of eight 10-team conferences. You play all 9 teams in your conference and winner goes to an 8 team playoff. Then you can have 3 non-conference games in September where you aren’t scared to schedule strong teams as only the conference games determine who goes to the playoffs.

I say we make it a double elimination tournament. SMU and Indiana just had bad days.
