You might be able to hear the voices but if you don't set the offset and the tone you won't be able to raise the repeater to broadcast.

Well, decided against CB. I’ve watched 3-hours if the most boring 6.5 hour long YouTube video for HAM test prep, will hopefully finish it this week Taking practice tests at work and hoping to be ready by the first or second week of January to pass my HAM test.

I studied philosophy and biology...electronic minutiae is hard!

Excited to get setup as well as finally be able to make it on a ride with all you guys!

Did you turn on beaconing? It’s in the soft menu when ya push the F key(3rd one down) in that menus there is another button that says tx beacon. That one forces the radio to send out your beacon.

I noticed it only wants to send my beacon out when I’m moving.

I think most of us just took the practice multiple choice tests and passed the general easily. The "practice" tests contain all 200 or whatever question pool that the real test pulls from.

First off, just want to acknowledge that you guys have a great and very informative thread here  @Stig

I believe I watched that boring AF video produced by arrl in the 80s or 90s as well. Buuuut did it (and a few others) for a reason!
As helpful reading cheat sheet with correct answers is, and taking practice tests could also be, knowing and understanding what the hell are they talking about here helps a lot! At least in my opinion .

I agree, I really have no background at all in electronics or radio (not even high school physics!) so watching the video lets me actually make educated guesses and has been helping make the right answers stick in my brain a little easier.

My favorite part of the video is the dude spends a lot of time really making a hard sell for computers.

Driving home and i found it... There's beacon and beacon tx
They are white in color (not dimmed) if i push either it just beeps. No other menu or color change.

Also turned on an autobeacon or something like that setting in the aprs menu. No dice.

Thanks for posting this, as I managed to find it with the search. Successfully stumbled my way through the CHIRP process, importing this file, and re-imaging my Christmas present (BF-F8HP). Baby steps!

Don't forget the apps you can get on your phone for practice tests. They break it down to make it manageable and show which questions might give you trouble.

    Hello from NH btw. Haha
