The marlin adapter set is like $600 more than TG. I'd love to have a marlin adapter set, but plenty of people including me are running the TG ones without problem. I used marlin 4.7 gears though. They are no doubt better than the TG ones and actually cheaper.

If you're going to build one up yourself, don't expect to order everything at once and have everything you need in one go. I got a majority of the big components on sale on my first order, but had to get little bits and pieces that I was missing as I was building it up from various vendors.

If you can get your hands on a complete rf1a case to use as a core to build it up, then you'll already have most of the parts you need. In my case I bought the housing and then had to source all the other internals I needed like shift rails and snap rings n shit.

read up on people's build threads who have done dual cases too. Good info there as well.

Tg offers 10 percent off for signing up for their email and believe they just put out 15 or 20 percent off which would apply to their crawl boxes. Same for low range.

Low range stopped the lefty before tg bought them along with most inchworm products. If your looking at spending that money go to atlas.

as for the debate between marlin and tg, you’ll get people who say they won’t run anything but marlin as it’s superior and guys like me who want me stuff and not wait two years or 18 months or whatever the current wait time is for marlin and realize that tg capitalized on a hole in the market and are meeting demand with a product that is equal to marlin in some ways and has parts readily available.

me personally, pick what you want. If you choose marlin. Expect to wait and absurd amount of time. Have emails go unanswered and phone calls that say your ship date has been pushed back but then get a cool red adapter.

go tg and you’ll probably have it within a week, they have decent instructions online and a help number. But you have to live with being shamed by the marlin lovers and being told you built your rig wrong.

at the end of the day, both will do what they’re intended to do and have their own issues.

There's more to it then just a red adapter. There's more engeering and tolerance built into their until than TG. Except for the wait time, MC is far superior than trail gear in designed and performance.

If you compared TG prices to MC, MC is slightly cheaper and the parts are better. Who in their right mind will buy TG if MC is have them in stock?

Last I check, MC 23s 4.7xd gears were cheaper than TG 4.7

Most definitely. When MC price is cheaper and the parts is better, why you. If you want to pay more for something that is less in quality, that's you.

I didn't say you built your truck wrong using TG parts but why would anyone paid more for a less quality part. Granted if both parts were in stock.

Yes, MC suck at keeping inventory consistent.

    Maybe we can distract them?

    What's better?

    DeWalt or Milwaukee
    Ford or Chevy
    Blond or brunette
    New York Strip or Ribeye

When’s the last time you’ve heard of someone ordering a marlin adapter, let alone an entire crawl box, on Monday and have it Thursday or Friday the same week? I ordered my built duals Monday and mine were here Wednesday.

What makes a marlin adapter more superior? I’ve never looked at 4.7 gears so please explain the difference between marlin and tg gears. I’ve had tg 4.7 gears 23 spline cases for 5 years, 2 of which had 37s and lots of wheel spin and the last 2 on 39s with even more skinny pedal with no issues.

I know nothing about the differences between the two. But I’ve also wheeled with tons of guys with marlin cases and tons of guys with tg cases. Never seen a set of broken 4.7 gears, never seen a front broken case from driving in low in the front case, and never seen an adapter plate brake. I’ve seen plenty leak but with enough rtv/black stuff they don’t.

Psssh that’s a conversation for another time and thread. I’ve done my atlas soap box.
Notice my little interjection in my first post mentioning it :D

Regardless of who makes it, I recommend buying the adapter and parts and building one yourself. You will be more familar with how it works and most importantly will be able to fix it when it breaks. You need to remember you will now have a component in your truck that 99% of mechanics have never seen or messed with. If you don't have the mechanical aptitude to build one of these, you should not even be thinking of installing one. It will make noise, it will leak and you will know what's going on in there, plus you will feel like a badass because you will be able to address all that. Anytime I see someone pay for a shop to install one of these I kind of cringe.

There that should distract from the marlin vs TG.:D

Not arguing that marlin have everything in stock. Yes, they suck at that. Mike is moving his dad business from crawling to brolander with turd gen it seem. Business is taking a sh1t dive and becoming a cr@p show.

Yep, personally seem 2 tg 4.7 broke after the spline cut. 1 broke on a 22r with 35 and the other on a 22re with 37, both damn 4 banger with what, 100hp?

But how did they break. What is different about the design in tg and marlin that makes them weaker. That’s my question. Instead of just joining the “marlin is better train”, educate the guy asking the question and inform him.

Any idiot who doesn’t give a shit can break anything. I’ve seen 22re with 35s break kingpin knuckles and axle shafts and atlas gears... but when you do shit you shouldn’t or just power through when everything is bound up, something will always break.

    ^^This

For people that ask me about doing duals, I tell them to build it up themselves if they have any sort of mechanical know-how. I learned a lot and had a blast doing it.
Lots of benefits for doing it yourself versus getting a pre-built.
A majority of the leaks I've seen/read about at the crawlbox have been from pre-built units too.

The saying "if you want something done right, do it yourself" applies here imo
