    I'll be all TG.
Just working out that way for me at least that's how I'll start since they had complete kits.

I'm slowly getting up to speed for my situation.... I've got a 2nd gen manual on 255 85 r16s (going to 35s)

Because of that I can't just use the trail gear box off the shelf yea(says it's for autos)? Could I swap my input shaft to make the trail gear case work?

Rst had a solution but they are no longer around.

NW fab option looks good But it's newer so no reviews yet.

Atlas looks nice...but it's more expensive, more fab work to fit it in? My truck is my daily and I have heard atlas cases are real loud at highway speeds...is this true? I've got MTs now so some highway noise is fine...I just don't want it to be horrible.

Marin is no longer in production...so that doesn't help either.

I must have lower gears because my clutch hates me in steep rocky sections.
It would be nice(but not required) to have front dig and 2wd low
What recommendations do you guys have?

If you want front dig and 2L your only option is an atlas. NWfab has been doing the front crawl case for a while I'd trust their product. If you can deal with just 2L get an FJ manual case and then add the NWfab front box. Or with the NWfab box it allows you to choose to adapt a bunch of different cases so you could do a different case and also swap the gears in that to get a better main case L gearing. Tons of different scenarios.

I've got a tacobox on an automatic. I wouldn't ever recommend someone daily a dual cased truck (or even an aftermarket case from what I've heard from others) unless you've got another DD available.

Please explain why a crawl box it is not a viable option for DD?

My duals are 100% DD-able with over 20k miles on them now in the last 7 years I’ve had them

I believe @betterbuckleup used a TG case and he's a manual. He'd have to clarify on what specific case he's using since the adapters and spline count are probably different if I remember correctly.

If TG doesn't end up working out, then keep and eye on Facebook/Craigslist/Pirate4x4 for an older Inchworm setup.

To chime in on the noise, there is some. Mostly you can hear the gears spinning, but outside it's very tame.

The noise thing I think depends on the adapters/cases somewhat too. My TG W59/crawler/chain case is no louder than stock but my buddy’s 4Runner that’s a340/dual gear cases with inchworm adapters is shockingly loud to where you can gear gear oil flinging around noises but has been that way for years fine.

Are atlas cases louder than other setups at highway speeds?

yeah my inchworm crawl box is annoying loud at times. especially on deacceleration. sounds like the innards are sliding front and rear banging around. there are times that when its kinda cold that its pretty quiet and enjoyable to drive havent had an issue with it at all since 2012 other than one of the ball bearings popping out of the marlin dual row bearing. changed that shit out for a different one.

Get a louder exhaust, more sound deading, install a Supercharger or turn up the radio.... Its all about wheeling the Wee out of your rig and what your willing to do!

Didn't say it wasn't, just I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Key word there is "DD-able".............mine is too, but if I had to make a choice on which of my 2 trucks to drive every day for an extended period it wouldn't be the dual cased one.

What's your reasoning behind it? I built mine to drive anywhere. It have a solid axle swap in the front as well. It's a grocery getter, lumber/junk hauler, work, school, you name it.

In my experience, my dad's is very quite in his FJC. Though 37 Krawlers and custom exhaust are very loud.

I've noticed that as well. A buddy of mine has 2.28 TG setup in his and it's extremely quite compared to mine.

My definition of a "DD" is someone's soul method of transportation or what they use 95% of the time so my thoughts on this are based around a truck being someone's "only DD"...not just an extra vehicle that can be legally driven on the street. I can and do drive my dual cased truck to and from work once in a while when its not being wheeled. I also drive it to and from Norcal, Moab, and Colorado for wheeling, so it sees plenty of pavement.

    With that said:

I'm not a fan of the extra noise for a DD. I have to crank up music pretty loud to drown out the whirling I get out of my tacobox and the stick rattles from the FROR dual sticks on acceleration and certain RPMs is kind of annoying. Different sounds are picked up and processed differently by different people, its definitely possible that I'm more sensitive to the noises the box creates while some others wouldn't even hear it at all.

Leaks.....yeah just look around this thread and else where. I *think* I finally got mine 100% sealed after like 2 years so it doesn't leak anymore, the last leak I sealed up was from a flange that Marlin sealed in their shop, so that leak wasn't on me.

Judging from what I've seen here from others and my own experience there is a bit of pain involved in getting one set up. Seems like a lot of folks, myself included end up dropping the assembly an extra time or more in order to sort out issues after initial install. Trying to drop a TC assembly out of a truck Friday night and having it ready by Sunday night so it can be driven Monday morning would be stressful. Having an actual DD so you can work on things at your leisure is way less stressful.

A tacobox specific issue on mine that annoys me, is that when I bought mine there wasn't any option for case clocking so I can't clock my cases and adjust them higher so when I replaced my transcross member and raised up some my mid-vehicle low points there wasn't much I could do about how far down the TCs sit without getting into serious frame/drive train/chassis modifications.

If I had 5k sitting around and a couple weeks of free time I wouldn't mind getting a 4speed atlas and trying to rubber mount it to resolve some of the noise complaints folks have about those.

That said, I do tell my wheeling buddies to get something with lower range gearing in their trucks to help with crawling, but they all have actual DDs too.
