Official Crawlbox BS thread!

Hey everyone, thanks for the help, everything's all cherry and together. My RTV job is sealed tight, but marlin crawlers RTV seaps! Does anyone who didn't go triple stick have a particular rubber "sub boot" that they used for moisture and heat on the chain drive case?

 

I used the boot that came with the 6 speed fj cruiser and it fit pretty well.

 

Since Inchworm seems to be gone, who would I order replacement parts from? I'm planning to swap my crawlbox from one transmission to another. If I can't get the oil seal and trans extension housing out of the original transmission who could I order one from? Any ideas?

Try calling marlin crawler?

 

They all leak, part of having one.

 

I blew a trans up because the seal on my extension housing went bad and all the fluid leaked into the crawl box and subesquently out of the truck. Trans ran dry and then kaboom.

So commingling the fluid is kind of bad.

 

How is that possible? The transmission pan sit lower then the crawl box and usually hold about 3+ quarts of fluid. Plus, crawl box can only hold so much oil.

 

People with crawl boxes don’t let the truck sit level all the time.

 

Manual trans and it sprayed back there while driveing via the output shaft. It always dripped since I installed it. I think the seal let loose at one point and it kept leaking and I assumed it was a normal drip.

 

Happened while driving over time.

Mine does it as well. And it's an automatic so it essentially pumps it around till the tcase is full then slowly blows out the breather. Crappy design by Toyota and crawl box manufacturers to not put a "real seal" or double seal between the two instead of that crappy small one.

Idk about “leak proof” but this is the required adapter piece for a manual trans to mate to the gear reduction box.
The adapters are trans-specific.

It did, this was a problem from a couple years ago.

 

Since the thread was on the topic I pulled this off my shelf. The one currently in my truck I had a local fab shop turn on a lathe for me. This was based on the exact measurements of the part pictured.

I unfortunately had the wrong one when I went to do my install and it left my truck immobile for weeks without it.

It took almost 8 weeks to get this one shipped to me at which time I had already had another one milled and installed.

My crawlbox install went south real fast really quickly.

In the end it all worked out though and that’s what really matters.

 

Anyone with a trail gear 4.7 have an issue with it popping out of gear while in low?

Mine is doing it, trail gear sent me another brand new case, and this is doing it as well. I’ve tried everything.
