Lol. I'm still going to have to wait 5 weeks. Oh well. Let me know what they say about the driveshaft! Are you going to consider getting thicker walls?

I found a local shop to do mine for less than $200. Stock wall thickness as well. Jess from hi angle talked me out of buying a shaft from him. Just make sure the local shop reuses the toyota flanges so you dont get some funky toyota to spicer conversion joint like they did to me.

x2 on this. Local shop did the same on my front section of the 2pc. Not a fan of the 1310 to Toy.

Because of that experience is why I sent my front back to HAD.

    :D

$75-$125 per retube has been the going rate for me in both Indianapolis and Chicago. The go fast, drag race guys in your area typically will point you in the right direction for a shop.

Well thanks @Snowy and @ToyRyd04 for the help and for not laughing when I said I was going to try and move the shift fork, that was a dumb idea on my part:frusty:

So yesterday I went and bought a topshift case and made a little progress today

I would disagree I would find a heavy duty truck/industrial drivetrain shop. The dragster guys will try to sell you a large diameter thin wall shaft and won't know wtf you are talking about when you want to bounce it off rocks. The truck and equipment guys will know how to build one more for our usage.

No matter where you go, must make sure they know how to cater towards your needs. I would tend to agree though, a heavy truck/driveline parts company is best. The place I go to is about 35 mins from my house but well worth the drive, they do everything from dump trucks/18 wheelers to crawlers. Heavier wall driveshafts and custom lengths, yoke patterns, adatpters, etc. When I got mine redone all I did was take my old ones in, told them the length I needed and the wall thickness I wanted. Came back a few days later and had new u-joints, and a fresh balanced shaft :D

    http://www.rpcdriveline.com/

Their website sucks lol but their service is awesome.

Yup. When I did mine I talked to our aircraft tug mechanic where I was working at the time and he sent me to a local shop that built tractor and semi shafts. Told them what I need, was cursed at by one of the staff 10seconds after walking in (knew it was the place for me LOL) and they did great work for me twice. Knew some people that tried a race type shop and it was a mess and bunch of pompous ass's.

    Looks good!

I think it’s more about finding a good shop that understands what you need than what they do regularly. Typically go fast guys are easier to find on the internet for recommendations than heavy truck/industrial driveline guys is the reason I recommend people start there. Indy Rack and Axle was the go to place in Indy for custom stuff whether it was a crawler or a dragster. Just tell them what you want and you got it same day for a fair price. In Chicago, Driveshafts Unlimited has done nice work for me on a retube but Surge Clutch and Driveline wouldn’t give me the time of day when I said it was metric Toyota. Both are geared towards heavy truck work too.

I'm dropping a shaft off today with my local guy. I'll post what it costs me. I'm just having the front section shortened 8 1/2 inches. I already beat the ujoints out of it and ordered the parts to put it back together. So the cost should be for JUST shortening the shaft.

I'm running a Ranger center support bearing and I don't feel like explaining that to them. Nor do I feel like paying someone to hammer Ujoints in.

Man I dont get it, I was arguing with a mechanic at work the other day about this on metric vs standard. I was telling him metric is far superior, because I can easily tell that 10 is smaller than 14, and not using your dumbass fractions. He had a shitty argument about merica...

Were they able to keep your metric driveline, or are you running conversion joints too?
Getting tired of sending parts all the way across the US versus somewhere sorta close by.

I sent my wife to drop mine off. Apparently they need the center support bearing and yoke to do the job correctly, so I have to go back when I have the center support bearing. I'using the Ranger bearing and I didn't really feel like explaining why I didn't have an OEM yota bearing in there but whatever. More time wasted. Fortunately this is for my spare DS.

Thank you, you're right. She's hot, 11 years younger than me, a massage therapist, will drop my parts off when I need it and doesn't bitch when I'm in the shop till midnight or 2am every day off for weeks straight trying to get the truck ready for a trip. I'll keep her.

What she's doing with me...:notsure::notsure::notsure::notsure: no idea
