Had a 83 with 4.7x4.7 using 2 repurposed housing as you mention for years and nothing happen. BTW, you still have to repurpose the internals so that defeat the purpose of getting a new rf1a gear case when everything else is repurposed except for the 4.7

Would be quite entertaining to watch a thief try to run off with your truck in low/low. Haha.

Revving to 5k rpm and moving just a few feet per minute. Imagine the look on they're face when they think they hit the jackpot but can't drive off with it.

Well if you are getting a box from MC or through RST, you are probably getting an advance adapters case anyways. It’s what they have shown pictures of lately.

My inchworm box has lasted since 2012 with no issues also. But if building from scratch with parts I’d go with a box from advance adapters just cuz of it being thicker and already clearances for 4.7 gears

    I thought so due to:

    1. Made from Chromoly
    2. Total spline vs TG that has the neck down portion - Prone to shearing due to how little the input shaft is engaged into the coupler.
    3. Has an oiling design built into the gears for better lubrication to the support bearing.

So me and @Snowy are working on what parts to get, we are thinking may need a new coupler (possible from MC?) and a new trans seal and seal housing. Plus of course the gears themselves. Sound about right?

    - Quality rebuild set (seals and bearings)
    - MC 4.7s either the XD set or Comp Chromoly
    - New coupler
    -Transmission housing adapter w/seal
    - MRC5029CG Dual row bearing - MC and Inchworm use a double row bearing to get rid of fretting on the crawlbox input shaft. Early inchworm boxes and all MC boxes use a fill slot style and have had numerous reports of bearings coming out. Late Inchworm crawlboxes started coming out with these to fix the issue. Highly recommend it.

I don't think a rebuild set is necessary on a crawlbox that is less than 4 years old...Especially when 4.7's come with new bearings...I'm not honestly sure there would be anything of value in a tcase rebuild kit.

Wasn't sure how old the box was, wasn't thinking that new. Fresh bearing never hurt depending how previous owner took care of it...

Forgot 4.7s came with new bearings. Good catch!

Ha I was worried about the bearings too when I found my donor case for my truck full of water in a junkyard...but once I got it apart and realized that literally all you re-use is the empty case half, I was super relieved.

I'm a little curious to see what bearing is in this case when I take it apart. I totally forgot that was a thing back in the day. I want to say it was corrected sometime around 2013  when there was the long TTORA thread so this one should be good to go as a 2015 build.

I honestly regret my crawl box with the auto. 4.7 is more than enough and would be happy with anything from 3.5-5.0.

Care to elaborate on this? Either you're just trolling or you've figured something out the rest of us haven't:bikewhoops:

Not sure about the conversion but the triple stick setup is just damn sex appeal in my book...I might give up a kidney before I convert one of these beauties. :burnrubber:

Sorry for being no help at all....Good luck on the mod :fingerscrossed:

You need to put yours in. Quit slacking. It's an 8 hour job. An hour of that was driving to my local welder and back for the shifter work. lol
