Hi everyone, I know there is a lot of information surrounding this topic, but I just wanted to clarify. I am planning on purchasing a set of SCS F5 16" wheels. I want to go with the 0mm offset and 4.5 backspacing. I am planning on running 285-75-16's in the future, and wanted to make sure that this backspacing is enough and will require the least trimming.

Therefore my question is, is the 0mm offset sufficient and better in terms of trimming? and if yes, why are so many people running the -25mm offset with 33's, is it only for looks/bigger lip?

    Thanks for the input.

My wheels are +12mm offset, or 4" backspacing +13mm offset, or 4.5" backspacing, (16" Tacoma Pro wheels) and they barely, and I mean just barely clear the UCA.

    So you are running 285-75-16's?
How is your clearance everywhere else?

An 8" wide wheel with 0mm offset will yield 4.5" back spacing. And yes that will be the ideal fitment for your truck to fit 285 sized tires while minimizing the rubbing.

*You will rub, and you will have to do trimming.
Side note: the wider the wheel and the lower the offset the more rubbing and trimming will be involved.

    Yep...mostly for "stance".
0 would be better than -25mm; +12 would be better on stock suspension, but most need the 1/2" less backspace for suspension clearance. Most don't do 285s on a stock suspension anyway.

I'm new to the backspace terminology. I've always used offset. 0 offset is a mounting surface in the exact center of the wheel width. From what I can tell backspacing is the depth the mounting surface is from the inside edge of the wheel. So wouldn't an 8" wide wheel with an offset of 0mm have a backspace of 4"?

That's exactly what I thought at first too, it makes sense. Problem is an 8" wide wheel is 8" where the tire mounts, outside to outside is actually 9". This is why an 8" wide wheel with 0mm offset (you're also correct there, means the mounting location is dead center) is 4.5" back spacing rather than 4.0"

Outside edge of the wheel for backspace...
Rim width is 1" lower than wheel width.

Sounds like that could vary based on material thickness then. Correct?

Industry standard is to add 1"; 1/2" for each flange.

    ^ This.

Different manufacturers mess with different densities for strength and weight reasons, but they keep to these standards for wheel measurements. (as far as I know)

I’m running 285/75/16’s with 16x8 wheels with 4.5” backspacing 0mm offset, can confirm I needed extensive trimming not to rub. Had to hammer the pinch welds and get a cmc too

It’s worth it though, isn’t she just too sexy?

Thank you everyone for your input. This helps a lot.

Was this the only trimming you had to do?
