@mastro1 i was just getting around to checking my leafs. Please excuse my ignorance I'm not a mech, but like to tinker. Are the bolts/nuts the ones on the rear of the leaf(bottom pic) or the on on the front(top pic). Also on the rear there are 2-one set above and one below.

Update: So I had rumble/vibes exactly at 20mph when slowing. It's at the exact same time as the truck is downshifting too.

Took it to the dealer and got the tsb : leafs and damper.

Still have a small vibe and OCCASIONLLY it's almost non-existent.

Did some troubleshooting on my own and here is what I found:

Truck in D, accelerated to ~ 35mph shifted into N and coasted to a stop (no braking). Zero rumble/vibe.

Truck in D, accelerated to ~ 35mph shifted into N and coasted to a stop (with braking). Zero rumble/vibe.

Truck in D, turned on ECT accelerated to ~ 35mph truck still in D and coasted to a stop (no braking). Zero rumble/vibe.

Truck in D, turned on ECT accelerated to ~ 35mph truck still in D and coasted to a stop (with braking). Zero rumble/vibe.

Truck in D, accelerated to ~ 35mph truck still in D and coasted to a stop (no braking). RUMBLE/VIBE right at 20mph.

Truck in D, accelerated to ~ 35mph truck still in D and coasted to a stop (with braking). RUMBLE/VIBE right at 20mph.

Results seem that this only happens when truck is in D right at the downshift when 20mph.

Thoughts? Should I be concerned? Why is this only durning the downshift right at 20mph?

Do all 3 of them, one at a time, you will hear a snap sound that means it was tightened on the lift. when you are all tight.. now your suspension is properly preloaded! good to go!!

Follow up. Both Toyota and my Dealer offered NO help. Toyota said it fell within specs. So, having your hands go numb is within specs....... If I can afford it I would have driven it to me dealer and light it on fire. Spoke to a lot of people on this and I am stuck. I either try and fix it myself or trade it. Yesterday I traded it for a Chevy Colorado. That was my 4th and final Toyota product.

Just a suggestion but since you are doing those you should probably check the u-bolts too. They should be torqued to 52 ftlbs per Toyota. My friend works at Toyota and I helped him do mine. The numbers were 52 for u-bolts and 89 for the other ones. I wrote it down so I could recheck them after a few hundred miles.

LMAO! I would not be surprised at all if you get another similar problem down the road or even worse. Dealership techs are hit and miss.

Thanks for this. Looking at 4 runner instead tacoma now. wheel bearing issues, automatic transmission issues, driveline issues are just too much. Also waiting to see how the new Jeep JL 4 cylinder Rubicon does. The lack of qc at Toyota is alarming and has put me off.

Read your binding arbitration agreement and see if you have to pay dealership attorney fees in arbitration or contact a lemon law attorney.

Good to hear other people experience the same issue with the transmission occasionally grabbing too low of a gear during decel. It happens to my 2017 TRD sport. I am wondering if I should be worried about all the talk of low trasmission fluid from new, on my 2017, or is just for 2016’s.?

Anyone know if besides the added shim, are the TSB leafs springs any different? Anyone know that shim's degree?

I'm not 100% sure if they are different but I know they are side specific. I didn't measure before or after to see if they did change ride height or how much it changed teh angles. The shim is a small one maybe 1 degree.

3" lift kit. 17" wheels and tires, custom grill, full technology package, Early model running boards, Push bar.
I have tried to skip through this thread and read as much as I can but I'd like to clarify some of this.

    1. Does this TSB affect only 2016?______________
    2. Does it only affect non-TRD models or is it limited in any way to certain models if so which ones?_______________
    3. So the "fix" seems to involve new leaf springs is this correct?_____________
    4. Also seems to include shimming with wedge under rear leafs in combo with the new springs correct?_____________
    5. Seems as though if you have an aftermarket set up or lift kit, you are being denied the repair right?_____________
There is talk in this thread of 3 distinctly different problems.
    A. Low fluid levels in the transmission
    B. Shuttering or vibration when braking around 20 30mpg
C.Transmission downshifting to far or in too low a gear during braking.

Are these three things confirmed to be related?

does anyone know the stock pinion angle and what the corrected pinion angle is?

    thanks, mike
