i think your going to have a hard time combating that problem it its freezing as is. :( if i was you, i'd consider putting on the factory plumbing until it warmed up outside... just my 0.02 however

Yah that thought is in the back of my mind, I figure someone else has to use a catch can in the same weather and I wanted to see if they had any problems, Thought maybe I would try the steel wool first and if no fix, then back to stock for the winter.

if it's freezing now, steel wool won't help. you need to get heat over to the catch can or anti-freeze

Thamks for the advice, I will probably just take out the catch can till the summer for now, but living in Canada it seems anytime unless its the middle of summer it can get cold (in the minuses), so probably best not to even run it eh haha

Thanks for the advice, but the truck will be fine with the normal hoses again i figure. Just burn off that oil sludge now.

well im emptied my can and im a lil worried. didnt have a lot of oil but it was white soooo im guess i got water in there. BUT im hopin it is condensation in the can mixing with the oil to cause that. if other guys are havin ice in theirs then that might explain mine. i have well over 1000+ miles on it and had my oil changed right before i did this mod...
i have picture which ill upload later

small amount of "Water" entering the intake wont effect anything. Heck i know a lot of the larger turbo guys run water injection systems into the intakes to cool things off!

I have never tried to empty mine after the engine has been stopped for long enough for the contents to freeze. It has been in the minuses (Fahrenheit) here for a while. I suppose what is in there is frozen but the last time I drove it around town and then opened the valve to empty it it drained like normal... Probably also depends on how far your can is from the engine block.

This is going on my to-do list for my truck and my golf cart. I can see this saving me a ton of time in my regular maintenance on the golf cart.

    Hey wang,
I've been looking at doing this I plan on keeping the truck for long time. Do you think if you put antifreeze in there that it would stop it from freezing? Also if you went for a drive then drained it that should work also? Just want your feedback before I go ahead and order this.

i pesonaly would deff not put antifreeze in the can and emptying it after every drive would just be a PITA

I'm not saying emptying after every drive. But instead of draining it in the morning after its been sitting I'm thinking like when you got home from work the air from the engine should melt the water in the can so you can drain it. There has to be something to put in the can to stop it from freezing. It was -30 all last week maybe if you could tap in a block heater just like we do for our oil pans?

I'm guessing you just run 2 small screws into the catch from one side of the bracket? And CayucosTacoma, what size line do you have, and would I just need to go to Summit Racing's website and search upgraded fuel line? Just don't want to mess anything up here :p

^ the fuel line that orielly carries has been excellent for me. Its the bio fuel compatable 250 psi stuff, roughly 4$ a foot... doesn't get squishy under heat and clamps well to the PCV and intake nips.

IIRC it was $4 a foot, I needed something and orielly is the only store here in the middle of WY that had some tube up to the task... I only needed 3 feet. Cheaper than buying braided line!

I dont plan on putting antfreeze in there just sounds like a PITA. I think because the can is by the battery it does not get any heat from the engine. I drove for 2hours in the highway and tried to empty it after and the pic of ice on page 16 was what came out. It was ice all mixed with oil. I think it was all just build up.
