Hell, I can add a sticker to the back window that will add more reliability than a catch can. And i don't play engineering. ;)

Alright man, let's put this thread to bed shall we? Some of you guys know what I do for a living... working with equations is one of them. @Ronzio posted a pic of a little bit of gunk in a bottle and said that is what he collected in 15K miles. Good. I have some numbers.
So i sat down and calculated. I assumed:
He averaged 60 miles/hr (best case or 250 hrs to go 15K)
I also assumed an average engine RPM of 2500. Right or wrong it is probably close.
I also assumed he had about 4 oz of gunk in the bottle.
So, not gonna show the boring equations but, when Ronzio went 15K miles, his 3.6l engine used about 2,800,000 ft3 of air at atmospheric pressure. That is how much air that would be in not one, not two, but EIGHT buildings the size of an american football field with an eight foot high ceiling. So, suck all the air out of eight of these buildings, wind up with what he had in the bottle. Huh.

2,800,000 ft3 of air and moisture because it isn't just oxygen sucks in. Gallons and gallons of water. And people are worried about 4 oz..

Completely agree. Plus it takes like 20 mins to install so it's not like you're killing yourself with work by getting one.

Makes you wonder if your engine would even notice.

It’s only takes a few minutes to install. But it’s a lifetime of regret when you forget to empty it.

Remember last week someone was convinced that buying a TRD Pro dorkle would make their engine last longer on their commuter.

If they had just said that they like the look i'd go with that, but nope the purchase was being justified for longer engine life.

Oil catch can guys are like that one guy in the group who always tries to make that “super bong” with hoses and chambers...every group has that guy.

Or the guy who decides his beer bong needs to have an $18 full port brass ball valve as he walks through the Home Depot pluming section with one inch clear hose, a funnel and hose clamps and two barb fittings to pipe. Don't forget the teflon tape Jr. Chad hate to have it leak out of the barb fittings.

It won't be till senior year that he'll drink his beer and smoke his weed like a normal person because Rachel finds that shit unattractive and low brow

I wish that I could run an oil catch can on my wife's 2011 Chevy Equinox. It has the 2.2 L Ecotec engine in it. It doesn't have an external PCV system, it's all internal. There is a small orifice in the intake manifold that is supposed to "evacuate" the blow-by collected by some baffles in the valve cover.

And just to impress you guys further...
It's a direct injection engine without the fuel spritzers for the valves, so carbon builds up on the backsides of the intake valves and ruins throttle response. To restore throttle response you have to take the intake manifold off every 50 to 75K miles or so, and grit blast the backsides of the intake valves clean.

After the blow-by plugs up the insufficient PCV orifice of the intake manifold, moisture builds up and freezes in the fresh air intake from the air box, plugging the crankcase air intake tube. When this condition happens, internal engine pressure builds until the rear main seal blows out.

Oh, and just to round the package out, the oil drain holes behind the oil rings of the pistons are insufficient, so the rings seize up, leading to excessive oil consumption.
Do you wonder why I drive a Toyota?

An oil catch can isn't gonna magically solve poor design.

:thumbsup:Cut it off and place a breather on it. Wheelers and racers have been doing it for ever. This cuts it off from the intake and you never worry about it gunking up the intake. The catch can is just a fancy filter really.
Just place the breather in an area that won't get splashed by water. Dizzone. Works for my jeep and I've had it on since 96.

Those were pieces of shit from day one. I'd sell it and move on, but that's just me spending someone else's money.

I can see that no matter what vehicle you own, the CC debate is a hot one! If it is just a DI motor than I would lean more towards getting one. Like I said before I have the one off my Chevy. Is it going on my Tacoma? No.
    Smoke and mirrors? Maybe......
I will say when you introduce a larger area it will of course collect more condensation especially in colder climates. No can, no condensation.
