    No, I'm not asking how to turn it off ;)

    I'm wondering how this works. Is it set to come on after X number of miles? Does it actually determine for itself when the oil needs attention?

    i think they usually come on within 500 miles of a change

    It flashes for a few seconds after 4500 miles then stays on after 5000 miles since the last time it was reset.
