do you have to put on a new drain plug gasket? can you get one at auto zone or advanced auto parts or napa?

you can actually reuse the one thats on there, just dont torque the crap outta it. the best ones are at the dealer though, and they are like $1 a piece or so.

The filter I bought from the dealer had a crush washer in the box. That is, I guess, if you are gonna use a toyota filter.

the dealership must be good to u guys up there. i got my filter at the dealership but i forgot the washer and it didnt come with one.

i just got done changing the oil tho and, like most people, i had trouble getting the filter off for the first time. i have the type of filter wrench where you place the whole metal cover over the filter and use a ratchet on it. it just wanted to spin on there so i hammered 2 screwdrivers through the holes of the cover into the filter and that kept it from spinning.

Many different ways of doing it. The tool I like best so far is one of these types. You use a ratchet with an extension in the square hole you see in the picture, and it serves to both tighten around the filter and twist it off.

The $1 list price on a washer is absurd. If you are in the KC area Superior Toyota throws in the gasket for free:rolleyes:. But I did have to pay $5.60 or so for both.

yeah, a dollar is goofy as hell. the parts guy at the local dealer here is pretty cool sometimes, he gave me a handful last time i went to get a crush washer for the rear diff.
