my father-in-law bought an 07 Taco and when he got it, the dealership told him he had to do something special when he changes the oil. he cant remember what it was, something about the filter being upside down or something. but he always takes it to the garage to get the oil changed cause they told him this. i bought an 08 taco and asked the same dealership about this and they told me there was nothing special to do. did they just tell him that so he'd take it there to get it changed, or do you just change it like any old truck?

change the oil like normal........just a word of caytion though, on the 4.0 v6 motor....the oil filter is upside down. easiest way to do it is, drain oil, then, look at the bottom right of filter housing....there is a rubber nipple plug. remove the plug and place an old cup or bottle under the drain plug....then take the filter off....it wont make a mess this way. other than that..............its the same as any other oil change.:)

You can also get some hose from NAPA or whomever that will fit on the nipple. Get enough that you can feed right down to the oil pan

I changed my oil for the first time today (by myself) & I am far from a mechanic. If I can do it, anybody can .... All the tips the folks here give are empowering!! :D Fwiw, I used an empty sunny D bottle to catch the oil filter overflow. No messy!

Also, where do folks get their filters online? My parts guy (all new guys now at my dealer) was an arrogant ^&%$#@.

easy insurance for me, I purchase the drain plug gasket from the dealership and I keep that receipt. If something happens to Truck, I'll have "proof" that I actually kept up the oil changes.

I used a 5/16" I.D. (7/16" O.D.) 5 foot long hose I got from the hardware store for the filter basket.:

Contact Toyota Offroad Parts, call 800-327-2087 and ask for Shannon. If you buy a case of 10 OEM Toyota filters they are 3 something each plus shipping.

You can also find OEM filters on e-bay.
