Its a little pricey, but at Wally World, they sell 5 qt jugs for around $22.00, and then you get 1 qt for $5.97 or something like that. No biggie, your next change will be MUCH cheaper. :)

I was taught this growing up too, but I always wondered the following as I learned more about motor oil:

    1. If the "5" in 5W-30 multi-vis oil indicates the cold flow viscosity, then doesn't that mean that the oil is actually "thinner" and therefore flows better at low temps?

    2. After the engine has been off for awhile and the oil has had a chance to drain back into the oil pan, wouldn't it drain more completely?

Just some thoughts I've had - I've actually come to believe that it might be better to change oil on a cold engine, but I am no expert!

    Hahaha!

I've been debating this for a while. I can see both sides of the issue, but I don't know enough to draw a conclusion. Debate time!

Take pancake syrup. Which is easier to pour, Cold Syrup or Hot Syrup?

I would have to go with hot. I do get the drain all the way to the bottom though...

A cold 5 weight oil flows more slowly than a hot 30 weight oil. The rateing "5w" means it flows like a 5 weight at 32* (or 0*, i cant remember) Also, when the engine is still hot, i.e., right after being driven and up to opperating temp, the crap in the oil is still suspended in the oil, and not settled in the pan and other various parts of the engine, thus, draining the oil when hot is better, as it flows out faster, and takes the crap with it.
