    Using this valve, does it matter not having a magnet to catch metal shavings in the oil pan?

    Or is there another means to visually inspect for metal wear in the engine oil?

    There are more answers to this question than flies at a barbeque,search the forum and you'll understand. Check your owners manual and get the type that it calls for. Be prepared to wrestle with the oil filter, for some reason Toyota service loves to tighten the hell out of them. Make sure you have a good filter wrench or a Lisle oil filter wrench.

    Will this valve fit my stock height Prerunner? I prefer the type that the hose attaches to and plan on an AM skid in the near future.

    Thanks Dr...I was worried about the statement "do not use on low profile vehicles", I reckon that does not apply to my Prerunner. I'm gonna order one for my next oil change.

    Probaby never. Really nothing to wear out in normal use.

    The other benefit to these, in addition to those already mentioned, is that since the oil drains a bit slower I've found that it doesn't splash if I don't get the drain pan positioned just right.

    Regarding conventional oil, according to numerous threads at BITOG, you can't beat Pennzoil (Yellow Bottle). That said, any name brand oil will be fine, and your engine will be good to go.

    There was another interesting thread over on BITOG that I can't find right now, but a taxi company did an in-house engine wear study. In the end, IIRC, all brand name oil is fine with little difference. But the one thing not advisable that showed some internal wear is changing oil brands for every change. Different additive packs... I guess the moral of the story is pick one and stay with it if you can.

    (I would assume you could switch every once in a while without an issue.)

    Question...since you are screwing the valve into your oil pan like a drain plug, doesn't it stick up into the oil pan preventing the bottom of the oil pan to drain? That would be leaving the most metal shavings and crud from the old oil in the oil pan.

    The oil does drain slower so its great not having to worry about splashing.

    It will poke up a little bit but others have stated that its minimal. What I plan to do is take it off for the first time after 5 oil changes and check. Ill drain it then unplug and see how much oil comes out after a complete drain.

    Here are some pics of mine. The skid plate was my cousin's and you can see the oil stains from where the dealership would drain it through the hole, which I hate the build of crap in there. I was afraid the nipple would extend out too far but once I put the skid on I don't think I'll have any issues. Worst case I'll get the regular one and throw this one on my 4runner.
