Any oil will do. Many of us run Mobil 1 synthetic. I use the 0w-30.

5w-30 synthetic Mobil 1, valveoline, amsoil, etc. They are all sufficient, heck you could probably use delo if you wanted to. Its all personable preference. I use amsoil with Toyota filters

Might want to get a new crush washer for the oil plug, since you might not know how many times it's been reused.

Use a quality oil that is rated for your engine....not sure about the 14s....but my 06 uses 5w-30....i use Castrol high mileage....its a synthetic blend with a really nice additive package. Use a good filter as well.

Toyota recommends 0W-20 synthetic if you have the 2.7, or 5W-30 dino for the 4.0 . If your drive train is still under warranty, I would stick to these recommendations.

Outside the warranty period, many Taco owners switch to synthetic for the 4.0 and extend oil changes up to 10K. Since you put many miles on your truck, 0W-20 on the 4.0 will help out with gas mileage, but the thinner oil will tend to burn more between oil changes and may also leak past gaskets (valve cover primarily) as the mileage piles up. But, since you drive more than average, the drawbacks are minimized; so, I would try the 0W-20 for the 4.0 and see how it goes.

do we consider 104k miles on a tacoma "high mileage"? i'm unsure...my '94 was still strong at 210k
regardless, i would recommend using conventional oil rather than synthetic - as synthetic can cause older seals to leak.
regular oil changes are more important than the oil type - & my recommendation is to use toyota oem oil filters based on my research.

It doesn't seem like it nowadays, but over 75k is considered high mileage. As long as you switch to syn and stay syn before 150k there is generally no problems. The people who go to jiffy lube are the ones who have the problems with inconsistent oil types. But yea, factory filters are the best for the buck.

His seals are 4 years old. Besides, synthetic oil causing oil leaks is a myth.
    http://www.cenex.com/about/cenex-in...page/oil-and-lubricants/five-engine-oil-myths

If you are going to use synthetic oil and extend your oil changes, buy a good quality synthetic filter. I use Mobil1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 and Purolator PL30001 filters (and add .5 qts extra oil). I've had my oil analyzed twice: 9700 miles on Valvoline MaxLife 5W-30 and 10K on Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30. The lab results showed the Valvoline didn't have many miles left after 10K, but the Mobil 1 could had gone another 2-3K. Of course, your driving habits, load on vehicle (i.e. trailer hauling), and geographical location (cold & hot states) will affect your results - that's where lab testing comes in handy.

OEM filter and any brand of oil will be fine, just use the recommended weight the owner’s manual calls for.

By the way, don’t use a “high mileage” oil unless you are having some kind of leaking/burning issue. Don’t just blindly use it based on miles. Once you start down that road there is no going back.

Gas Engine Oil - Very exotic, it is reused and unfiltered/unmodified from retail petroleum transfer stations to a new container. Thereby, it has already proven to be reliable in most vehicles.

This is a random multi weight blend of non synthetic 40 grit goodness that helps your vehicle on to the next oversized rings and pistons.

It has a suspension of ground up dinosaur bone grit particilies that scrub clean your engines cyilinder walls with a continuous honing action.

Has also been Tested by Labs.

After too much time cruising the forums for info on oil, I have been running Mobil1 with an OEM filter since 95k on my truck. Filter is cheap enough at the dealership, plus they throw in a crush washer for the drain plug.
