Alright guys, I did some looking around and I didn't see a section/thread for this already...

I'm a nerd and find reading Used Oil Analysis Reports really interesting. I've seen hundreds of posts, mainly on BITOG (www.bobistheoilguy.com), where this information has uncovered hidden issues with the engine, and allowed the vehicle owner to correct the issue before it was too late.

If there's enough interest in this, maybe at some point the Mods can make a Sticky for these, so we can put them all together and compare our results and see what kind of trends we're getting. It would probably be best to break them down by generation, so it's easier to compare them.

If nothing else, this will give you a chance to poke fun at those of us that are into this sort of thing.

I would try and title your posts as follows: Vehicle Year/Model/Engine, Oil Brand/Weight/Type, Mileage On Sample

    Example: 2011 Tacoma 1GR-FE, Mobil Super 5W-30 Conventional, 4,900mi.

As far as posting the actual reports. It'd be best to actually embed them into the post, versus attaching them - but either way will get the job done.

Please do not turn this into a "Which oil is the best for..." thread. There are plenty of them, take your pick.

If this has already been done, or if it is too similar to what other dedicated forums do (BITOG, for example), then please feel free to axe this.

    I'll start us off...

I finally got the Fumoto installed last oil change so I can get a sample much easier. Already have the sample kit, just need to wait for my next change so I can see how mine does.

It's great to see some interest in this!

Once we get a good collection of them going, we can see if Bob or Mods would mind making a Sticky for the reports themselves, or maybe a Sub-Section somewhere.

Also, it is only an extra $10 to have them run a TBN test - it measures the amount of additive left in your oil. This is mainly used for those of you that want to extend your OCI's - but I did it just because I think it's interesting and $35 is nothing for knowing exactly what is going on in your engine.

    Keep the reports coming, guys!

I've had several done as you can see below. They indicated a problem with the exhaust air switching valve before I ever had a CEL. I finally found the problem after getting a CEL and fixed it. It's about time for me to do another one to see how the oil is performing so I can establish a baseline for the oil change interval under normal conditions.

Here are the ones I've done.

This sample is a few thousand miles into an oil change after having fixed the air switching valve.

^^^^^^^what kind of oil and filter are you running^^^^^^^^^^ *****edit i see its Amsoil 5w30 synth. do you change the filter every 5k? or just run the same filter?

I understand that you want to make sure the oil is doing its job but at $25-35 a test, wouldnt it just make more sense to change it every 5k and not worry about running it 10k+ miles and testing it rather than just change it?

Try to keep these questions out of here, if you can. You have valid questions, but there are a ton of other threads to put them in.

The more bantering we get, the harder it will be to compare the reports.

    Thanks!

    afd23,

Would you mind posting the vehicle information for the first set in the Post Title? It will be easier to find that way.

    Thanks!

    That'd be awesome!

What are your thoughts on creating a Sub-Section for them, or something? Then you could break them down by models, engines, whatever...

Just a thought, I know that's a lot of work for what would appear to be a minimal gain...but there at least appears to be some interest in it.

Can't wait to see some more of these!
