I just might have to try that...Thanks Chris. I've thought about heating the end of the dip stick with a torch to try to change the color of the metal to where the oil might show up better.

The problem to me isn't the color, it's the way the oil runs across the dip stick at various points then runs up one side. I've had other vehicles do the run up one side thing but not back and forth like this one. I can see drilling holes working possibly but painting or running Royal Purple isn't the answer from what I'm experiencing.

Just make sure you put in the right amount of oil during a oil/filter change and make sure everything is tight, then check the oil in a day or so when the oil has changed color due to running it. It should show then on the stick. But, I like Chris's idea to drill out a few holes to create a scale to view the oil level.

    neglect, mostly.
yeah im never really sure. if i don't see any, or it's all really covered in it is the only time id get worried. . . i always just put the recommend amount of oil in it and use basic automotive sense to have peace of mind that it's not leaking or burning any. though painting it and drilling the holes might be a little quick project for me tomorrow.

    Lots baby!
I used a scotch brite to put a satin finish on the dipstick.

Seems to help the oil contrast.

Something I just thought of I may try going off chris4x4's idea: Dremel with a cutoff wheel, lightly score the sucker a few times horizontally down the stick.
