Toyota is also using 0W16 in the 2018 Camry A25A-FKS engine.

I'm about out of my free oil changes and am looking into a fumoto and the aluminum filter cap. Aside from being tougher any other pros of the metal cap? I was thinking the plastic might have an advantage in that there's little chance of marring threads on the engine block but I suppose it could warp and leak under extreme heat? Just speculating
    Thanks for any info.

It's probably a matter of peace of mind.

What would you prefer to hold your precious engine oil within your engine? Plastic that can warp, crack or strip, or metal which mostly stays consistent throughout its life?

The plastic oil filter cap will last at least 3 generations... don't need aluminum..!
But if YOU are doing the oil changes....go for the Fumoto Valve.... It's the cat's f'n meow.....I've been changing my own oil cuz in Canada the "free" oil changes are Not "free"... Like $750.00 or so (for the Toyota We Don't Care)... (I declined this very nice service)...

Besides... I like to do my own service...as much as I can... Only then do I know that it's done "right"...!!

Back to the Fumuto valve.....This thing is better than sex.....!! Place a hose on it and turn the valve lever and the old oil goes into an empty oil jug. Clean as shit man... Use the same hose on the filter drain and not 1 drop should hit your hand or driveway.

But always use the Toyota filter.... they is better..!!!

sorry i didn't go through all 22 pages but I just changed my oil and did a how to for the noobs. I have a TRD PRO skidplate so it was easier to access the filter. I tried that plastic drain insert and didn't do it right but I think letting the oil pour over was good enough to me just a little messier.

Good shots of the back of your head.... and it don't look like you had any idea what you were doing..!! Did not use the drain for the canister... Thumbs down.

    Honestly guys...73cj5, 81 k-car, 86bronco2, 89bronco, 89bronco2, 94 Saturn, 94 s-10 Blazer,99 Jimmy, 99 Sierra, 2005 Monty Carlo, 99 Ranger, 2012 Tacoma 2.7, 2017 3.5...
The 2.7 ties with the 2 Bronco 2's as worst...2017 was the first time I changed oil without using Speedy Dri...hold the filter with the (wtf is this tab), take out the cannisters drain..
On the B2's...second pan hung from right lower ball joint
On the 2.7...second pan went under right elbow. (Don't be forget that 16" extension)

Yeah, I thought having the filter on the top of the engine on my 2013 and all the leaking when changing the oil was a pain, but Toyota really did a number on the 16+ Tacomas if you do your own oil changes. I only have 800 miles, and will do it after 1000. Looking forward to it?

The filter was pretty easy to do on the old 4.0's, it takes a bit more effort on these trucks, make sure you drain the filter housing prior to removing it.

    Bright stuff
Paper elements have been used in Euro cars for decades, best setup is to have it on top of the engine in front like most Mercedes/BMW's do.

Reason is to allow Dealer Mechanic or smart Independent or home mechanic with Topsider/similar device (oil suction tool) to shove the oil suction tube down the dip stick hole, start removing the hot oil, spin off the filter housing, let remaining filter oil drain back into housing on the way to the sump, Mechanic should inspect element for particulates, dispose of properly, wipe clean filter housing, inside of canister housing, replace O and Oil up O Rings, replace element, tighten to spec, Open Oil fill, replace correct amount of oil 8-9.5 qts. in lot of cases, and start engine to check level. All without getting under car.

My Porsche little different , lift car, Remove Drain plug (Suction method doesn't work, dual sumps), drop canister, clean (prefill canister with 1/2 qt oil) and replace inc. O rings, replace drain plug, refill w 11 Qts. Drop back of car. Start and check dip stick.

Later recheck with Dashboard level indicator.

Oil suction is way better method of getting all old oil out, used in most boat inboards motors, Volvo, Chevrolets, etc.

No mess, no fuss, Topside pic below, Dealer uses a central vac system at most stations that routes back to central holding tank for recycling. below item cost 50.00, Air Extraction pumps are 180.00, if you own or do a lot of OChanges then cost is worth it in time saved.

Changed the oil in my truck for the first time yesterday (35k no more freebies at Toyota) and it was basically a Murphy’s Law. Catch can capacity was 6 qt (my fault) so yes oil everywhere. Used a hose on the canister drain which didn’t work, oil everywhere. Broke a ‘tooth’ on the plastic canister trying to remove it with a breaker bar (Toyota techs MUST HAVE torqued it to 200lbs), therefore causing oil to leak out of the canister. Oil everywhere.

I installed a Fumoto valve and metal oil canister for easier (I hope) future oil changes.
