Anyone put a filter relocation kit on their 5th gen? It's kinda in a crappy spot and it's the cartridge style and this would fix both of those issues. Eastwood sells a kit for less than $40 I was thinking about getting for the first time my wife's needed an oil change

You might get better answers/traction on the 4runners.com forum vs TW.

Well I was hoping since there is a t4r section here I could get the answers without setting up a new account, but I may have to bite the bullet

The main benefit of a spin on filter in the bay (I assume upside down) is the lack of mess. Once you have your oil draining you can spin the filter until it releases it's vacuum and it will drain the majority down to the pan. No chance of bumping it as you take a full filter off from below and wearing it. Just my 2 pennies, but I also don't mind the cartridge filters.

Ken from YT channel 'Offroad Hub' has a pretty good video showing how he did his oil relocation on his FJ (should be the same as T4R 4.0L). And if you need to eliminate the factory oil filter housing for a Solid axle swap or just to make more room, Instagram user @maxari_co has an oil block-off plate adapter similar to the one in the video
