Ok, so there is a small outlet under the catch? I assume I just take that off and it drains out?

theres a small tube coming out of the bottom of the catch with a rubber cap over it. Take the cap off and cram an empty oil bottle underneath it(you are changing the oil right?) with the tube sticking into the bottle then just take the filter off put the new one on and either give the catch a quick shot of parts cleaner or deal with a couple drops of oil on your radiator hose

Yes you are right, you can't see it that well standing over it or the side. But if you take off the black engine cover on top you can see the "outlet" a little better.
There is a black cap on it and all you have to do is take that cap off. The outlet is on the bottom and if you can't see it just fell around under it and you will find it. Make sure to put that black cap back on after you are done draining the oil and have cleaned it up.

Also make sure you get the oil collection set up for it before you start taking off the filter.

If you can't find it just let us know and I can see if I can take a picture of it to show you where it is. :)

Sweet action. What a wonderful little device. I'll try it out next time.

It can be messy. Besides I've seen guys tear the filter case so much with the screwdriver that they couldn't get the filter off that way.

Yes you bring up a very good point, like I posted before for anyone doing their own oil changes they should use oil filter pliers or something else. You can go on Google and type in oil filter pliers on Google Images.

I found the space around the oilfiler to be tight and my other two filter wrenches would not work.

I like the claw. I have a large channel lock plier but the space was too conflicting to use them.

I dont recomend pounding a screw driver thru the filter. The filter holder is cast aluminum, and a few have cracked when pounding a screw driver thru the filter. Makes a cheap maintinance turn $$$$$$. Also, connect a 4 foot rubber hose to the nipple on the bottom, and run the hose to the oil catch pan that the engine oil is draining into. No mess. :)

Or put an aluminum can under the nipple & hang it with wire. This is what I do.

Manual has the oil change at 6.1 qts. I checked the dipstick and it is reading at the full mark.

I just make sure when I use a screwdriver that I drive it through the entire housing, usually 1/3rd down from the base. That way I have enough to turn with.

The 4.0L is 5.5 quarts. The 4 banger is 6 or 6.1L I forget. Seems backwards but... it is different and stated in the manual. I put as exact to 5.5L in my 4.0 every time, and it comes out perfect.

The 2.7 is 6.1 with the filter....though just over 5.5 qts puts me right on
    the full mark.

I've got the 4-cyl/manual, my factory filter will take a large multi-flats 3/8" socket. I got a nice metal one locally that also fits Wix(#51348) oil filters. :D
