Money. The filter part is cheaper to produce than the ones that are all enclosed. C’mon man, you know money makes the world go around...... :D

Do you have anything to back that up, did you plastic cover break? What do you think the spin on filters have inside, carbon fiber filters or something?

Quite easy to do. Take a few extra steps and use proper torque specs when reinstalling. I don’t understand how people are still struggling with this.

So you think plastic is as strong as steel?

Or is that you think that a free floating spring loaded paper filter is just as solidly secured at the top and bottom as a paper filter with ends pinched in a metal housing?

I get it.. you're good with this penny pinching solution disguised as an environmental boon. We'll just have to disagree.

Let's all be real here... we prefer the spin ons because they are way easier, but there's nothing really wrong with the cartridge. We're just sacrificing our own convenience to help Toyota make more money while they wave their hands and convince us the real reason is to save the environment.

I think the plastic is plenty strong for the application, how is your trucks bed holding up?
It's only free floating when it not screwed in.
It's obviously good enough, these have been used for years and are not new.

Agreed, but the paper filter isn't hard at all.

It is in 2020, because people want to complain about anything that they can.

I guess, the more someone complains the more correct they are.

Harder, no. Slightly trickier, and you have to pay more attention not to screw something up, yes. It also adds a bit more time to the process.

Again, not a huge deal, but no denying spin-ons are preferable for convenience.

Meh, I hook up the drain valve I bought off Amazon after I flip the valve on my oil pan and wait for it all to drain out, no mess.

The way some people complain about it you'd think Toyota fucked their wife while making the decision to switch to filters like this.

Posting on a forum that the spin on filter is preferred somehow has chapped some snowflake's delicate sensibilities.. they need to continue saying the same gat damm BS.

Is upset about someone’s differing opinion.

    Calls them snowflake.

    Fails to see the irony.

What's amazing is how I just happened to see a thread about the paper filter and made a contribution from my experience this weekend.

Meanwhile the paper-filter defenders arrive and shaitpost up the thread.

I get it, your inability to adapt to change makes the world, and your oil filter, and big and scary place. Good luck.
