I doubt there was any damage with 5w20 royal purple. I have run 10/30 in my truck it’s entire life 250k miles. The 5vz-fe is a tough engine but is prone to “minor” oil leaks especially around the valve cover seals and cam plugs. Determine where the leak is coming from and report back.

The leak might've plugged itself up. Where was the leak at? If it was valve covers you might be able to buy some time just by snuggling the valve cover bolts down a little. You'll likely have to address the previous leak sometime, rarely do they go away permanently. I'd avoid the purple stuff and go with Mobil1 5w-30 or 0w-40 or the Amazon basics of same weight and a good filter and you're good to run 7k mile changes. If that weirds you out do 5k OCI

I am considering going 10/30 from here at 180k. Kinda hoping to quiet down the valve train not certain what the guy before me was running but I have been using whatever’s on sale for synthetic

Bottom where? Above or below the oil pan.ots of things can leak. Just because most don’t, some will. If it’s sourcing from the top check the valve covers or even where the dip stick tube goes into the block. There’s a little O-ring. Those can definitely dry out.

I would look at the valve covers first.

if so I wouldnt worry about it, it may be just one of those car things. I had a customer who had an Opel GT that had leaked oil from new... that is what he told me. I dumped the oil and measured it... 5 qts of oil in a 3.5 qt system, maybe that is the issue, too much oil from the prior oil change.

2004 Tacoma, 166+K on odo, 3.4. Had small leak, would leach to bottom of bell housing, decided to end it. New rear cam seals and half moons, new valve cover gaskets.
Toyota tech did the job, all good.
