'97 4WD, 4cyl. 233,000 miles on the motor. I had the oil changed recently, and the level looks good.

All of a sudden starting last night when I come to a stop the oil light comes on. Would this possibly be the oil pump starting to go?

I had a ford truck that had this issue, it was the oil pressure sensor gummed up causing the oil pressor (gauge) to go to zero. Replaced it and all was well. Never had that issue on my Taco however.

    Nope, level is OK.

I did a bit of digging around on Google and the common issues around this seem to be oil sludging/blocking engine ports, sender unit, or oil pump.

Hopefully it's just the sender unit.

    Too many to list.
I had a '99 Ford ranger that had a bad oil pressure sensor, try replacing that, should be about $10-$15 for the sensor and a little elbow grease to replace it...

check your battery connection. When the idol gets low enough they will sometimes trip the light.

That what I was thinking due to the fact that the light only comes on when stopped.
