My oil pressure light comes on yesterday after a 15 min drive and it does not just come on, it flickers slowly where it will be on for a brief second then off for a few. it does this for a while until its staying on longer and longer as time passes. checked and changed the oil so i know its not low and if the oil pump had failed truck would be toast, and im sitting at just under 140k miles. Taking it to the shop today or tomorrow just looking for any suggestions or other knowledge as to what may be wrong.

Could be the oil pump. Could be the sending unit giving a false reading. What brand oil and filter have you been using?

I would not drive truck.until you figure out what's wrong. It could be sending unit but unlikely. Tow it to shop and ask them to test oil pressure. If light stays on after some time it looks like you have a problem. Oil is more watering afte warms up so pressure always gets lower but it should be more than 3 psi what the sending unit is set for.

It may be cheaper to simply buy and install a new sending unit to try before towing.
