they're fun - i had two when i was younger - i'd still have my 86 CJ7 if a damn drunk wouldn't have ran into me. you already know about the down sides, so no need to go there. i'd consider a new one if they were more reliable (i refuse to buy american designed and made products still to this day) and cheaper -

get one if you want - have fun. you may get tired of it, so sell it then. it was a blast - i live near the beach in socal, so the weather permitted using the soft top for a good part of the year. ignore the complainers about db's driving them with the top down, etc. just be yourself and have fun.

I was torn b/ Tacoma and a Wrangler Unlimited. I finally came to the conclusion that I would be much happier with the Tacoma as a daily driver (98% of the time) although happier with the Wrangler a hand full of days in the Fall or Spring with top off (less than 2% of the time).

I figured I could just rent a Wrangler Unlimited every now and then for those days.

If you really want a jeep type vehicle buy an old FJ40 and run it through it's off road paces. You'll never consider anything else again.

If you're up to a complete restore, rebuild. Those FJ's aren't getting any younger and they're riddled with rust/cancer. Unless you pay TOP dollar for one that's already been restored.....

They're awesome, but a whole hell of a lot of work if you get one that hasn't been touched.

The auto has a shit ton of issues... the engine and crappy auto ar why I got the Tacoma. New engine and transmission for 2012 for Jeep. The auto has shift issues from 2-1, clunking, wearing out repeatedly every 15-25k, etc. it sucks. The standard gives better power and economy too... I just hate standard Jeeps as I had a 4 speed CJ7 stick and hated it.

I had a 94 Wrangler manual with the AX15 tranmission (5 speed). Those are pretty damn bulletproof.

The new ones have 6 speed tranny - just not sure what its called and don't have time to search for it.

Looks on www.jeepsunlimited.com - search there, that is the huge Jeep forum. You'll find anything you wanna know about them.

nothing, all stock expect got a OE replacement air filter K&N.
i want a jeep too, but in the end, it doesn't do as much as tacomas. jeep is compact and can't haul stuffs as tacomas. tacomas are long and can haul more.
