Old Coast Road

Have any of you driven on this road lately? I went to visit Bixby Bridge a few weeks ago and wanted to drive through the entire trail but turned around after I saw a fire warning sign. I could've easily moved the sign to the side and went through lol

 

We were up Prewitt Ridge a few weeks ago. Didn't see any fires.

Looked up fires on Calfire map, nothing going on as well

I tried Old Coast Road from both ends when I was down in Big Sur in June. After going around a few signs discouraging through traffic, I ended up at locked gates.

Yeah those gates are at the town of Gorda on the coast and block access any further south on Hwy 1

 

Would anyone know what the current status of the coast road is?

 

So I've been asking that question a lot lately because there was a group of us headed down there on the 17th (we're going to Prewitt instead).

Consensus seems to be it's closed about halfway up. And 2wd "not advisable" on the first half.

The lady from the county on the phone said that the road is currently closed due to fire damage and no ETA on reopening.
And no interest in volunteers to clear it for them..
