I actually prefer using a sawzall most of the time. Grab some lenox gold metal blades and they fly through bolts. The thin kerf makes real quick work of hacking up metal. I even did the majority of my cab mount chop with a sawzall lol. Maybe i just like using a sawzall because im a carpenter :D

Picked up about a half bed's worth of firewood today and the truck didn't sag a bit. Was pretty nice. Same amount of wood with the stock leafs and I was hitting the bump stops whenever I hit a bump. Loving the Dakars!

It has its applications, but I prefer the angle grinder with a cutting blade.

    Hey guys,

After reading 50 pages or so of this thread...I have a few questions..

I just bought the OME kit w/ 885's from toytec including the dakars for the rear. I will be cancelling the order for the 885's tomorrow and changing it to the 886's because I want to add a bumper as well. For a 10' tacoma, do I need 3 degree axle shims? I just ordered the lengtheners for the installation but haven't ordered the shims yet because on the toytec website, it said it helps with vibrations on 95.5-09 tacomas...

Is there anything else I need to know about for the install? I also bought LR uca's, bora 1" or 1.25" spacers (still undecided) and plan on buying AMR teflon rims with 285/70/17 duratracs. I do realize I will have to do some trimming/cab mount chop.

What are the specs on the wheels? If the wheels are available with the correct backspacing/offset you will not need spacers

I didn't use shims, just a carrier bearing drop and I have no vibrations. What lengtheners are you talking about? The center pin collars?

Whether or not you need centre pin collars depends on which style of axle shims you buy

If you plan on getting the style that slide in giving you the option to add them at any point , get the collars ( these shims have a hole in them large enough for the centre pin head to fit through )

    This style :

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Zinc-Rear-Axle-Shims_p_273.html

Toytec also sells an axle shim set up with an extended pin but this set up requires you to add the shims to the leaf pack prior to install as the hole through the axle shim is the size of the centre pin shaft and not the head

    This style :

    Noob question:
Wheeler's website says ome 881 coils will give me 1.75" to 2" lift.. I want a good 2" but don't want to go all the way 3".. I've heard of the 881's sagging to less than 1.5", has ome fixed this issue?
And does anybody have any real world numbers as to how much lift the 881's gave them?
Keep in mind I don't and won't have an aftermarket bumper. Thanks!

I know they supposedly fixed the sagging issues on the 2nd gen springs. The new springs have an X after the numbers. Haven't seem much discussion in here from 1st genners though. You could always e-mail dan@wheelersoffroad.com and ask him if ARB updated the 1st gen springs too. As for height, the 2nd gen springs give more lift than is claimed. Their 2" lift kits usually net about 2.5".

I googled the wheels, came up with 4.5 backspacing and 0mm offset. You dont need wheel spacers to run 285s on these wheels. Some wheels in the style do not clear the front brake caliper though. Before you buy them you should look into that, maybe just send american racing an email, they have a wheel fitment guide on their website and the mojaves do not come up on the list when you select tacoma as your vehicle.

I've been contemplating going the OME springs/5100's route for the time being. Right now I'm completely stock as far as bumper and all but I eventually plan to add a plate bumper. Which spring should I go with for my current setup? I'm assuming the 886 would be way too strong for a stock application. Would 885's be the preferred route for approx. 2"-2.5" of lift up front? I would be running the 5100's at the lowest setting.

Any advice from anyone running a similar setup would be greatly appreciated.

That's my plan as well. I have a set of 885's that I just put up for sale because I keep hearing they give you 3". I want 2" with 5100's. I hate to sell my 885's if they will do 2". Anyone have info?

Probably around 2.5" on a double cab with 885s

Do the different shocks make a difference to the lift height? OME's vs 5100s? Doesnt seem like they would, just asking.
