From what I read, it will happen if your front cvs are off, and it's really common, quick search confirms that. I wouldn't like to take a diff apart because I don't have the right tools, and I haven't seen a start to finish tutorial on it, so I would trust it To a good shop to do the work. I do want to learn, but I don't want to Learn the hard way by a diff exploding under my engine...

Sorry I may have worded that wrong. I will install the lift with some help from friends but I wont touch the diff. What I was saying is should I get the bearing and have a trusted shop install it right away, or wait to see if I get the vibes? Would trying the diff drop kit first be a good idea since it will come with the kit at no extra charge?

 

I'd wait until the lift is on before you do anything vibe related. You might not get vibes, some don't. I didn't get any or have any.

 

Its very common, even at low mileage. Mine started at about 30k. You don't have to pull the diff apart, but you do need some tools, experience, and some skill. There is one "special" tool necessary to pull the old bearing out, but it looks like you could make one with some 3/8-1/2" steel, a drill press, and a welder.

as the others have said.. the vibes are hit and miss. I had some, but werent do to the lift, but were wheel related. all vibes are cured now and no vibes due to lift.

 

I'm at about 10k with the lift on, 21k total and I've just started noticing it. I'll probably put the ECGS bearing in sometime this spring with a little help. Looks like a decent amount of work but definitely not impossible to do....even for rookies like me.

It's really not a "drop" on the 2nd gens, more of a "tilt". I wouldn't waste your money.

This thread is for a long term fix, instead of just fixing the needle bearing, this addresses a sloppy seat for a gear inside the diff housing, not where the cv attaches. I've had vibes, had my tires wheels balanced at least twenty times till I gave up and started blaming the suspension hahaha!

 

I thought it was no extra charge? True about the tilt, kinda crappy the way it does "lower" the diff.

 

It's at least $30, not sure why someone said it was no extra charge.

I've subbed that thread, somehow missed "the seat" part. Guess I'll have to re-read. I was hoping I could use the EGCS bushing and be done with it.

 

You are right. When adding it into an OME kit they don't list that its an extra $30. So don't do it. If I get the shitty angles and vibes go ECGS and all should be well.

 

What is "the seat" part? I haven't read all 75 pages yet but it seems like you just need to remove the needle bearing and install the ECGS bushing and all is good. What am I missing?

So, he says the ECGS bushing is still the solution to fix the slop in that video. So that's nothing new, thankfully.
