    Thanks! @WheelInTheSky
I'll keep up the research. From what I've read the 883s are the way to go for a firm but responsive ride. Just trying to see what shock to run and if (hopefully) i can do it without aftermarket upper control arms. I'd love to do them money is just a big part of it. I have a 2.5 inch lift in the front now so the Cv axle angle won't be a big deal. I can always just drop the front dif or just keep replacing as needed haha. Will lifting the front up that extra 1/2 inch really make that big of a difference in alignment? It's the caster right?

Ya it will make a big difference in alignment , and don't do a different drop it defeats the purpose of lifting your truck . Search diff drop and see the bad shit that can happen when your wheeling and have a diff drop $75 to save your cv axles can cost hundreds to thousands in the long run

How does a differential drop defeat the purpose of lifting your truck? Serious question lol I have one and wheel mine, no problems at all

Alright thanks. I wasn't to worried about cv axle angle. I have only had one seal go bad on me so far. The trucks been lifted for many hundreds of thousands of miles haha. The PO replaced the cvs once or twice I believe.

Makes sense, but to some extent your tire size can help gain that clearance back, I definitely see your point though

Clearance , your diff is the lowest point on your vehicle, so why lift your truck for clearance to lower your diff

Just to clear things up... the diff "drop" changes the angle of the diff. A lot of people will tell you this is bad as it can cause excessive drivetrain wear. To alleviate bad cv angles, some suggest carrier bearing drop. There are a lot of opinions, testimonials, and variables at play here. There happens to be a great write-up concerning how to mod a cv boot so that it won't rip. There are others who will replace boots or axles when they fail and think: "aww, fuck it. That's the price I pay for having my lift."

I would like to point out that this thread ends up being the place all newcomers with suspension questions end up (myself included) so let's be very careful what we post, as any post could be taken as fact or misconstrued by someone with little knowledge on lifting their Tacoma. This thread has had many contributions made to it by knowledgeable folks with experience lifting their trucks, but a lot of this info seems to get lost in the fray.

If you are green enough to be asking questions like "How much lift can I get from this spring with this truck if I give my grandma a ride to the dentist" then please be careful about giving advice on suspension setups or drivetrain angles. It would be far too easy for someone to read one single post and take it as fact, give up researching entirely, then order a kit and a month later start a thread demanding to know why their driveshaft looks like gumby, their cv boots look like sea-urchins, and their poor old Granny missed her appointment at the dentist.

Concerning diff drops, from what I gathered (take it for it's worth) diff drops on 1st gens actually drop the diff and that can help. On 2nd gens, it rotates it more than drops it, and they should be avoided.

And I don't see how a carrier bearing drop will change cv angles. Driveshaft angle maybe, but not cv angles.

Go read and then go fuck yourself out of this thread.

He has a 1st gen where the diff drop is actually beneficial. Again, fuck off out of this thread and stop providing incorrect information to people.

For the guys saying to use the search bar on here, we all know it's garbage. Best way to find what you're looking is to use google and search:

2014 DCSB - Looking for 3" of overall lift. Will be purchasing a rear bumper, not entirely sure about a complete front bumper. I do some off-road wheeling, but not extensive. Looking at the , just need specifics of coils and such. I know I will be purchasing UCAs, but will I need brake lines or anything else?

    Later.

General consensus for 3" of lift is to run 887s. Especially if you don't plan on hanging a bunch of weight off the front.

Brake lines seem to vary for some from what I've read here. I did the Dakar Leaf pack with Nitrosport shocks and did not need extended rear brake lines.

I'd imagine how far you may flex the rear end with your type of OffRoad trips may impact this need though.

I've yet to completely flex mine so I can't speak for that!

I did the 887's up front to hit the 3" mark (give or take). But I'm waiting on bumper and winch so may have to change to 886's depending on how much that settles things.

If you install dakars w/ nitrochargers or 5100s you do not need to extend the brake lines. There isn't enough droop, err I mean flex, to max them out.

Just curious but is this because of the limit of the shock or the spring?

The shock limits the drop out. I put extenders on mine to gain a little more.
