That Apex bumper is a big ol bitch, and I had to use the trans attachment on my floor jack to get the skid on.

*On second thought, that's about right. They are both supposed to give the same amount of lift.

Just measured mine stock with about 1/2 tank of gas. DS 20", PS 21"

Hopefully 885s with the 13mm spacers will get me 3" exactly.

Found a massive hunk of something sharp in the tread of one my brand new Duratracs while I was doing it too! ugh!

885's with 1/4" spacers can do that

Now I just have to find a place that will install them for me so I can order them.

You don't need blocks when you go with the Dakars, right? They provide plenty of lift on their own, correct?

    That's pretty extreme:eek:

Try the 885s by themselves first.

By design the 885 and 886 are supposed to provide the same amount of lift in theory, its the spring compression rates that are supposed to be different. I guess actual results do vary.

Naw. Order them from Wheelers preassembled and you can do it yourself. And if you need the 1/4" spacer that's cool because the studs will accommodate them. You can put them in later if needed.

886's are also longer than 885's

I don't really trust my mechanical skills enough to install a lift myself. Don't really have any friends local that are good with a wrench either. I'd rather let someone who is supposedly a professional do it.

I've already gotten pricing from Wheelers and Toytech, toytech is cheaper than wheelers so if I do order on-line it will be through them.

I assume thats part of the "engineering" to help deal with the added weight.

It's really elementary. YOU CAN DO IT. Hell, my build thread steps you through it, as well as the Haynes/Chilton manual. You got this fly-boy. :D

Ah, bringing my branch of service into this! haha Nice!

I could probably do the front but trying to flex/finagle the Dakars into place is something I would really not be comfortable with....or extending my brake lines. I've looked at the how-to's and it's tempting to just try it. If I get stuck though and my truck is sitting in my garage without suspension, i'll be in a world of hurt! lol

I bent metal. Is what it is. I'd cut it if I was to do it again.

I had rubbing until I helped the alignment guy understand what an adjustable uca actually did. Now I have slight rubbing on the front of the well in reverse. I'll cut that little plastic nub off and be home free.

    9000 sounds right.

Thanks for the compliment! I look forward to seeing yours all finished!

Are you telling me the Army & Navy can do it but the Air Force can't?
Dakars are heavy & awkward but if you have an extra set of hands to slide the bolts in you'll be fine.
Bleeding the brakes after you swap the lines is easy also.

Much less angle on the CVs in that scenario. When I get a chance I'll crawl back under there and measure the angle with the truck on the ground.

Did them myself on my 95, and if I had known they would have sent out the front pre-assembled I would have done this one myself too. C'mon chairforce (friendly ribbing), embrace the challenge! Just wait for one of those nifty 4 day weekends, and make sure you have all the components you need on hand :D

We'll see....maybe I'll talk to the auto hobby shop guys, see if they'll help me out. You know us Air Force guys don't like to get our hands dirty! c'mon!
