So I have a 2001 ext cab tacoma with 4 cyl 4WD, tube bumper, sliders and 3/16" skid plates. Not a huge amount of extra weight. So i had 5100s(set at 0") and the ebiach springs and I got like 3" maybe a little more lift out of them, but they ride really rough.

So i was looking at switching to a OME 881 or 882 with the 5100s. Any suggestion? Anyone with a similar set up? Should i get the 881 and set the 5100s at the first notch, or set them at 0" and get the 882s? Looking to get 2.5" of lift.

Late to the party but i didnt notice any difference in ride with my 883’s before and after install of trail gear bumper. If the tg is 100 pds, once you subtract weight of original bumper, there isnt much of a change

I've got 9yo 881 on mine with a plate bumper and winch. Bumper is 98# and winch is 90# with cable. I set it up on the middle notch of 5100s until just a few weeks ago. I swapped in new 5100s and went up another notch and it feels tall AF now. But numbers are close to what the original lift was and I actually put on Tundra 5100s. Yhey are beefier than the Tacoma 5100s and fit just the same. I have a thread somewhere with pictures.

All that said, I think you'll be good with 881 coils on bottom perch of 5100s.

Is it just me or are a lot of people running the spring perch upside down on their nitrochargers?

I think it would be very obviously wrong if the perch was upside down. It would not fit together very well. Do you have a picture of what you suspect is an upside down perch?

    This is the correct way:

    9F4D324C-750E-42A2-B194-C6C88B3560C2.jpg

you can see that the spring sits in the perch. This would not combine well when reversed.

This is how the wheelers website shows it. I'm pretty sure these images are from OME.[IMG]

Yeah, stock photos. Look at the bottom of the shock, the one in the photo has an extension below the shock body and the bushing, on first gens the bushing is welded right to the body, see in my photo.

I’ve no experience with 2nd and 3rd gens, but I would be really surprised if that is how the perch is supposed to sit on those shocks. :notsure: Probably just dropped the perch on for the photo.

Bilstein’s perch looks that way but it is not a cup like the OME.

Exactly. OEM is similar to bilstein. But the spring would not play well with an OME upside down in my estimation.

I ordered an OME kit a few weeks ago from Headstrong Offroad, 882's, Dakar's, Shackles and SPC UCA's options brought me a bit over 2 grand. The Headstrong kit DOES NOT include an extended brake line FYI. Seeing how long this thread is, this may have been mentioned before, but it bit me in the ass today so I figured I'd share. Also the 10mil trim packer wasn't in the box.

Good to know, after selling my F250 today, I'm ready to lift my Tacoma.
Looking at the OME lift kits as well.

Rims are on the list too, The Pro Comps are near the top of the list.

Where's the place to get Pro Comp rims? Any vendors on here?

Have a look at the Black Rock wheels, too. I got my ProComps from here and tires from DiscountTire online. Pay the little extra for warranty and you're good to go for a long time.

I will note I got a set of 5 since they were so cheap. Another reason is that the spare requires the stock lug nuts and the ProComps use the acorn style. A 33" tire can be made to fit in the stock location with a little bit of modding the brackets.

Was wondering if anyone on this thread could direct me or assist me in which way I should lift my Taco. I have a 2002 single cab Taco 5 speed manual. I was looking at the OME set up. But I’m not too sure if this is the way to go. Not too sure if I have to go a Frankenstein route and combine different kits and suspension setups to lift it properly. If anyone has any intel that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Got everything included through wheelers and it included the brake line and saved about $150 with the trim packer also the only thing extra i paid for was the rear brake reclocation bracket

3 inch OME with Dakar leaf packs. Thinking of adding an AAL because the backend sits lower with the camper on and even more weighed down because I’m planning on putting a rooftop tent on at some point.

Also, I upgraded to retrofits and I couldn’t be happier!

    What is your goal?
    Are you 2.7 or 3.4?
How are your rear leafs? Do you need want new leafs?

OME is probably the most complete kit.
