I Have a 2004 regular cab 4X4 with the 2.7. I don't want any lift at all but found that with anything aftermarket I'll end up with some. That is why I bought the Deaver J59's. I had wanted to go with Kings or Icons which would work far better with the Deavers but don't want to part with that much cash right now and the factory suspension needed to go. Therefore, I just ordered the OME 880's with OME struts for the front and the OME Nitrochargers for the rear. I'm having Wheeler's assemble the front struts so I don't have to waste my time doing that. I figured staying with the same brand of shocks front and rear would work better.
They say the J59's will give 1.5" of lift and since I have a shell I figure that I will probably end up with 1" once they settle. The 880's are supposed to give a little over an inch and once they settle so I suppose I'll end up with an inch.
Being a regular cab with a 2.7 and a daily driver I'm hoping the 880's will be the right choice. I don't carry any weight on the truck and if I do it will be very rare. I'm going to put some Timbrens on for those situations. I don't have armor and the truck is 100% stock. For my purposes this truck being as short as it is has all the "lift" I need. I'm assuming I won't have any problems with CV's or u-joints going up an inch or an inch and a half? Avoiding problems like that is why I went with components that would give me the minimal amount of lift. I do take it off road quite a bit but nothing that could really be considered "hardcore wheeling". There's a lot of washboard in my area as well.
The ICONs or Kings are still planned for the future. I figure that down the road when those need to be rebuilt I'll have the OME's sitting around to use while the other stuff is being rebuilt. I'll also be able to see how much of a difference there is between the two. I'm sure it's a big difference considering the cost differential between Kings or Icons and OME.
Have I picked the proper front springs for my truck and usage or should I have gone with the 881's?

You can pull into any truck stop and they will let you weigh for the same they charge the big rigs. It runs about $10 these days.

I think that if you truly don't want any lift, then the 880s are probably right for you. I went with the 881s and the Dakars for approx 2" all around. It is higher, but it is not obnoxious either in looks (like the S. Utah Chevy driving wahoos) or when getting in and out of the truck, even for a short guy like me. I think that the 880s should be fine, and should do a great job at smoothing out the washboard here in Utah just like any other OME product. Likely even over time you will end up with a little bit of rake, but IMO a pick-up should have a bit of rake if it is a truck that gets used as one even occasionally. As far as CV's and UJs go, you should have no problem. Throw your new stuff on, get it aligned, and go hit those washboards with gusto.

Thanks for the reply. Compared to the stock stuff with 140,000 on it the OME with Deavers in the rear will, I'm sure, be a huge improvement. As I said in my above post I wanted to go with King or Icon but at this point in time they were just too costly so I went with the OME. Something tells me that I'll be perfectly happy with the OME and that Kings or Icons would really be overkill for what I do. However, I still want a set of one of those but these will get me by for quite a while I'm sure. The Deavers are a softer spring and I bought them mainly because they give so little lift. They say 1.5". I have a regular cab with a shell on it so I'm thinking I'll end up with an inch once they settle which should be pretty close to what the 880's will end up at once they settle. I'll see.

Kings or Icons are not really overkill! A lot of people run these coilovers for the great ride they give on road... Yeah they are made for off-road use but they also are made to give the best possible ride on the road along with great performance off road! I have OME 882's and love them but if I had the money I would get kings just for the great ride I would get for daily driving! But you chose the right coil and will truly enjoy them over stock!

With OME "quite a while" could mean the life of your truck. I chose OME at the recommendation of a friend of mine who has 100k miles on her 881s and Dakars, and she drives it hard on the dirt. I cant imagine you regretting your purchase.

Well, I'll see how I like the OME. Right now is just bad timing for dumping so much on Kings or ICON's and my last drive in the dirt did it. I had to do something now. I'll get around to King or ICON down the road unless I'm just so tickled to death with the OME I decide not to.

The thought has crossed my mind that I may so happy with the OME that I never will justify the higher end stuff but time will tell. From what I've read about ICON and KING as well as others it sure does sound like they are worth the money and I may want to see for my self.

Thanks for all the input. It sounds like I made the right choice as far as the OME goes. the parts should be here tomorrow but it may be another week or two before I have time to put it all on.

Well I wasn't saying you need to buy kings or Icons cuz I have OME 882's and I love them just was explaining that those high quality coilovers are used for less than offraoding! But you will love your OME!

I understand. The OME arrived today. Packaged quite nicely. Wheeler's is very good to do business with as far as I can tell so far. Hopefully I'll get the parts in the next couple of weeks.

Is there a difference between the Nitrocharger Sport and the Nitrochargers? What did they do change the valving and call them "Sports" or do they still sell plain Nitrochargers?

It looks like most 1st gen Taco suspension packages from ARB come with the Nitrocharger Sport shocks. Though they still do offer they regular Nitrocharger, I am not sure what vehicles they are available for.

In any case, I found this press release on ARB's site which details the differences between the Sport and the regular Nitrocharger.

    From the release...

"What’s new in the NitroCharger Sport? A high density polyethylene dirt shield, a 10 disc compression stack, a 10 disc rebound stack, the base cup, a triple lip check valve seal, the slip ring, tight fitting rod guide, 35mm high flow piston, 6 disc cylinder end compression stack and a new oil source."

Thanks for the link...a good read, even with all the marketing jargon.
