My dad has a first gen autolocking hubs. the shop told him he cant have a 3" lift because of this but seems flawed to me because the suspension has little to do with the hubs besides CV angle. Wondering what lift you autolocker guys have on. He was looking to do Bilstein 5100 rear and 5100 front coilovers. Any suggestions? I know this is an OME thread but I have suggested it to him. He wants to achieve 3" of lift as well as get some new struts and leafs out of the deal. Suggest away!

It is a misnomer to call them autoloacking hubs. No such thing. There are manual locking hub setups and there are Automatic Disconnect Differential (ADD) setups. On the ADD setups, the hub and CV axle is always spinning (locked), they are either engaged or disengaged at the differential.

Most 1st gen Tacomas are ADD.

A lot of us are running "3 inch" lifts. Though 3 inches is the maximum amount lift for this IFS design. Personally, I like to stay slightly below that. 2.5"s of lift seems to be the ideal, with minimal ware on the components.

When I did mine I just ordered all OME since i have read more than once that they are designed to work with their springs. I didn't use OME springs on the rear though. I put J59 Deavers in the back because I wanted minimal lift. I put the 880's up front with the OME nitrochargers and nitrochargers in the back. The ride is stiff at low speeds even with 240lbs of "sand tubes" in the back and other stuff. I am happy though. I don't have to slow down to 5mph anymore when I drive over a speed bump. If it were me again, I'd just go all OME all the way around the second time as well unless I wanted to spend a bigger amount on FOX or ICON which I almost did this first time but just couldn't justify the expense for a DD. It's a definite possibility in the future though.

I plan on OMEall around and Wheelers Progressive AAL and eventually Allpro expedition spring pack.

Nah, I had them like that on my previous 04 Ext cab 4 cyl. Originally had the 10mm trim packer on top, but switched to the second notch with the 881s. Worked great, would be a decent preload for your ARB as well.

Figured I would post up a 7 years later update. Purchased it in February of 09 and it has been in two trucks. First it was in my 98 reg cab

Have the full kit with 881s. Wheeled it for years with no rear bump stops everything is starting to show its age but still works and rides well.

Even with the plate bumper (no winch) front skid and 170lbs of homemade crossmember and crawler it still holds a fair amount of lift.

Thanks for posting this! I have OME 881's, dakar, and OME nitro's for all 4 corners sitting in my shed. Once I get a couple more front end parts I'll go ahead with the install. Probably early march.

I'm keeping the front end light on my 02 and with the 881's I have, I feel better about front end sag after reading what you have.

I run basically the same with a heavy winch and heavy all pro bumper. .25 toytec spacers on top of the 881's. No issue with sagging at all.

Anyone have a suggestion for my rear leaf packs? 97 4cycle with a cap and extras on the back.

Wheelers 5 pack? 8 pack? Shackles? Never dove into my leaf packs before.

I put the J59 Deavers on mine with everything else OME. I love the Deaver's. They are NOT a load carrying spring though. I've got a shell, a small toolbox and 240lbs of "sand tubes" in the back and it doesn't sag at all. From what I hear the Deavers are good up to about 500lbs if you're going to off road it while loaded. I've heard you'll ruin J59's if you load the truck real heavy and start offroading it. My truck sits level with the weight I have in the back and OME 880's up front.

Im personally a fan of the dakars with the AAL. Be sure sure to get the right year for your truck. The early tacomas like yours use a shorter spring than the newer ones. Your early taco use the same size spring as the pre tacoma pickups.

The wheelers packs are very good too, they are ALCAN springs rebranded for wheelers. They cost alot more than the dakars, but good american steel too. I believe between thr three options here they are all a different lift heights. Not by much though, like an inch or less...
