Old Man Emu setups on 1st gens

To put this in perspective... I have 882 and Dakar pack w/o AAL. To bring me level f/r with shell and NO extra weight, I had to add 1.5" lift shackles. The snugtop alone makes about a 1/4" - 3/8" difference when removed.

 

On a recent camping trip I had maybe 400 lbs in the back and I bottomed out the shocks (stock bump-stops). I'll be calling Kurt next week to get the 882's and the D6XL. From what I have read, with no weight in the back the D6XL is a tad rough but it's a truck right? With a topper, high-lift and a 33" spare I think I should be good to go.

 

I think dakars with the AAL ride awesome with a shell/spare tire in the back. Add a few more hundred pounds and it smooths out even better. I love it.

I'm running 882's up front with Dakars+D6XL rear (Nitrocharger Sports all around). Now after a year with sliders, front plate bumper, full skids, and rear plate bumper (which actually weighs out to the same as a factory bumper with receiver) and no other load, the truck balances very well with slight rake. With a topper it will balance perfect. Before the armor and bumper I would go camping with ~500 lbs of bed weight. The truck drove VERY well and was comfortable on dirt roads. I will admit that unloaded the truck rides a bit stiff, and other than the first year with it being jarring, it is now far more comfortable.

My stock shit was so worn out. With the full OME, stock bumpers and no shell it feels so smooth. I can only imagine what the front and rear bumpers are going to do.

 

Then which coils will be equivalent to the ones I have ? I need at least a full 3 inch lift

 

a full 3" in the front is pushing the limits of what your CVs and control arms can handle. Beyond that you're just asking for trouble. You can run aftermarket control arms and solve that part of it but the CVs are still a limiting factor unless you can run LT front suspension with high angle CVs which very few people do.

 

Maybe a BL for extra inch?

Why do you "need" a full 3" of lift in the front? If you want to fit tires the lift only helps at ride height. After that it's all cutting to get the tires to stuff.

Yup. Take it from someone with over 3" of lift. It's just stupid. My cv angles are stupid, my ball joints are about maxed out at ride height. Cv's started spitting grease about 2 weeks after installing the lift. Alignment is not great. And I have very little down travel.

Only reason I'm running what I have up front (5100/ eibachs) is because I got a great deal from a local, otherwise I'd be running ome/ 881's. I'd much rather have 2"lift, greater range of articulation, less stress on components than the 3"+ I have now.

Friend & I, installed this set up:
I ordered these assembled from Wheelers.
882 coils
90004 front Shocks
1 - 5mm Trim packer on Driver side

Just had alignment done, i Like it!!!! I have a Bro lean, I knew i would but wanted to get this front-end pkg installed and see how much lift i need in the rear to level her out.. Ride is not bad, not bad at all...
From Center of Hub to Bottom of Fender is exactly 25" Both sides..:

 

All this. I'm adding a winch, not just so I can keep from getting stuck but to add weight to get the nose down. Somewhere after the winch and a belly skid, I'm going to reasses the ride height and possibly reduce it if needed. The only reason I have downtravel right now is I paid the big money for some uniball UCAs.

3" is hard on the IFS.

Front end shop advised alignment not an issue and all looks real Solid... I like the stance....Working on rear leafs now..... The ride is fine for this High lift... I am happy with it,,...
