My truck is currently measuring 20.75” from hub to fender edge. If you are sitting at a settled height of 23”, that’s a 2.25” lift. I think the 888s are advertised as providing approx. 2.5”. That’s only a .25” discrepancy. There are a lot of variables that could account for that difference. That doesn’t sound too unacceptable to me, but maybe your truck was sitting higher stock than mine. Do you know what your pre-lift measurements were?

888’s can provide around 2.5-2.75, usually you hear it’s the second.

Mine initially got me 2.75 and settled to 2. That’s a fairly decent reduction from what I wanted.

I also enjoy a firmer ride so a stiffer spring is okay with me. I do plan on eventually doing front end work too so future proofing kind of works.

Can anyone, who lives in an area with nasty winters and salted roads, tell me how their OME shock bodies are holding up to the elements? I’ve heard the yellow coating on them is kind of crap. This is sort of pushing me towards going with the Bilsteins.

8DE6875F-69BB-4EDE-9FFB-3944AEBDE7B3.jpg I got 5100s around with 888 in front and single aal in back with overload leaf removed. I still have 1” of rake. This means the 888s did not give me the lift expected. I would probably have more rake if i went with 887.

Wow! Do you know what your hub to fender measurement is? Definitely doesn’t look like you got a 2.5” lift to me, but pics can be deceiving. Your fender flares could be making it look different to me as well. I keep seeing reports like this and of excessive settling. Really has me scratching my head. Currently researching some other options like the Dobinson & Eibach coils, but my gut still wants to go with 888s as I know sometimes problems get blown out of proportion on forums.

I do not have those shocks but I also never heard of a shock absorber failing due to rust. Also shock absorbers have a limited life regardless of corrosion, so it’s not something I’ve ever worried about. YMMV

Truck looks good. How’s it riding? How long have you had your 887s & did you maintain 2” of lift once they broke in a bit?

Thanks, it ride’s great. Way better than the stock sport suspension. I switched from 885 to 887 to achieve more lift probably 6 months ago, but I drive quite a lot for work. I’ve never actually measured my lift, but haven’t noticed any significant sagging in the front. The back sagged some with the addition of camper shell, roof rack, and constantly transporting a couple hundred pounds of tools.

Thank you! That’s encouraging. I really want to go 888s. Just trying to make sure I’m not setting myself up for excessive sagging issues.

I hear ya! I’m not necessarily concerned about failure as much as I am about it simply looking like shit. It may sound silly & superficial, but I’m not interested in spending a nice chunk of change on shocks only to have it look like I salvaged them from a junkyard after one PA winter.

Depending on what you do . My Bilsteins before I installed them I clear coated them at Bodyshop I work at before install to protect them from elements. Just my 2cents.

Hub to fender is just under 21”. Sitting on 275/70/17 so just under 2” so i just say get the longest one possible to account for settling

    Work in progress...
After a couple years and 35t thousand or so miles, it is holding up nicely. I never actually measured it to start with so I can't say for sure about
    settling.

Running 887’s with OME shocks and a med duty Dakar pack. Rides like I want it to. Have had 887’s on my FJ, 4Runner, and now this. Never had an issue with OME. 285/75R17’s.

I have the 888's and the HD OME rear leafs with a camper shell and no weight up front, couldn't be happier with the ride. Also running the E rated KO2s in 265/75/16. This is right after I installed them, before the shell.

Truck looks good & I’m glad to hear that you like the ride. Now that you’ve had the 888s on your truck for a little while, how much height did they give you? Thanks?
