I have a 2014 OR DCSB with OME 884x and the FJ trail team wheels and was wondering if anyone knows if I could get 285s in there? Not afraid to do some trimming. Stock uca but could replace if thats what would be needed to make them fit. Don't want to do spacers or replace the wheels.

Gotta have UCA'S with 285 or you'll rub.

I'd also reccomend cab mount chop.

Have 285 on trail teams on stock arms. No rubbing, plenty of clearance. Running 885s with bumper and winch.

Ha! See what I did there? Just making sure everyone was paying attention!

    Lol.

I guess you don't need em. I put my UCA'S on prior to getting the TT rims, I just figured that they would rub since they are a stock Toyota part. I will now consider myself educated on the matter...

You can run 285/70/16 and fully flex & stuff and you might rub just a little bit, if you want a 285/75/16 it will require more trimming and a cab mount chop to fully flex & stuff

So the guys running them without issues, are they 70/16 or 75/16?

I've got fj 17's 285/70/17 (same as 285/75/16) with OME 885s and Camburg UCA's. Only rubbed the front fender liner a tad in reverse. Heated it up and pushed the liner back instead of trimming. No cab mount chop, not necessary even flexing off road. Never ran the lift on stock UCA's, so I can't help you there.

I'll trade ya plus cash for your trail teams

Not a lot of people run that size (285/70/16) mainly because of the limited choices of tires, I did for a long time and I loved them. You will have significantly less cutting and chopping , and don't need a cab mount chop with the 285/70/16

I was referring to rubbing on the actual uca itself. With my stock rims (rugged trail edition "baja" rims) they would hit the uca without spacers. Aftermarket UCA's are designed differently and give you more clearance between the UCA and tire.

But let's be honest here, if you run a 285, on damn near any rim, you're going to rub some.

The main benefit of aftermarket UCAs are tire clearance on the arm itself (like ffdawson said due to their different geometry) and added caster which moves the wheel/tire forward without changing the contact patch on the ground. Low caster keeps the tire at the back of the wheel well where it is more likely to rub things like the cab mount. Adding caster centers the wheel again. Still may rub, but less likely. In the front of the well is the plastic liner, easy to trim. Back is the metal cab mount, not so easy. Lifting a vehicle causes the stock UCA to run out of caster adjustability and keep the wheel behind center.

Op - The backspacing on the trail teams is 4.5" compared to 5.5" stock which will bring your wheel 1" farther away from the UCA. I say go for it. If you can't align or it rubs, then get some new UCA :D
